DICE 2010: Uncharted 2 wins like everything at Interactive Achievement Awards

When we awarded Uncharted 2 our top spot in 2010, we simply thought we were aligning ourselves with other people with impeccable taste; however, after reading the results from last night's 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards (i.e., the DICE awards) we've discovered that we've also aligned ourselves with the entire video game development community. While we only bestowed a single award on Naughty Dog's latest outing, the Academy dropped ten awards on ol' Nathan Drake and friends, including Outstanding Achievement in Game Play Engineering ... oh, and Game of the Year. While Uncharted 2 was the hands-down "winner" last night, there were 17 other awards handed out (some of which we're sure Uncharted would have won, had it been eligible). Other familiar names on the list (which can be found in its entirety after the break) include: Batman: Arkham Asylum, with three awards; Scribblenauts, with three awards; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with two awards; and Brütal Legend, with two awards.

Congratulations to all the winners. Oh, and let's just give Naughty Dog all its awards at once from now on; it's tough to make award-winning games without any cartilage in your knees.

Congrats to Naughty Dog!

Uncharted 2 is one of the top two games I've played this generation. (Mass Effect 2 being the other)

Totally agree. Dragon Age rounds out my top three games of the last two years or so, but Uncharted 2 is probably in the top spot. I can't think of a single thing I would have changed in that game. It was very nearly perfect.

Wow! Mass Effect 2 is on Uncharted 2's level? Like "run out and buy a 360" type level? If so, I might consider doing just that.

Ill take the comfort of my couch, surround sound and my 55" flat screen over playing it on a PC.

you can have all that with your PC. You just need a couple more cables.

Wireless mouse and keyboard and you are set! Best part about gaming on a PC, whenever there is a load, you can alt +tab to por... news sites.

MW2 won two awards too many.

Why is there way more players on MW2 but takes me longer to get into a match than it does on Uncharted 2 or MAG? Makes no sense. Maybe its just me.

Not only does MW2 load faster than any other game this generation hands down (you can make it to the online lobby screen in less than a sec not counting os booting) but MW2 matchmaking takes little to no time. I always wonder why other games can't do this. Sure MW2 has that odd time when it just sits there, but for the most part it is fast.

In comparison Battlefield BC 2 and UC2 take awhile just to load up. Especially UC2..."Live Update"....."Downloading".

Yeah I figured it was me LOL the matchmaking seems so slow compared to COD4 and 5.

Though, I'm not gonna lie. The servers on the PS3 version suck ass.

Well deserved awards, on Naughty Dog's part.

Music in Uncharted 2 was generic.. Everything else I can accept but that. I mean, yeah, it was epic and everything, but it was easy. inFamous did some awesome music, though. I like how Brutal Legend got thrown in as a strategy game.

During the coarse of the game whenever that horn (from the beginning ND logo) suddenly crept in, it gave me chills.

I agree that inFamous's soundtrack was amazing and it was probably the most underappreciated game last year but Uncharted 2's soundtrack was far from generic.

I'd have to listen to the soundtrack again. It didn't really stick out to me (but then, I didn't play U2 all that long). I'm sure if it won it was well deserved. The IAAs are much better than the Spike Awards.

I would have given the best score to Assassin's Creed II. ODST had a very good score too...they could have even given it to MW2 -- there were some chilling moments in the MW2 score during the White House retake scene...

Uncharted 2 clearly had professional Hollywood score, but I would have gone with AC2...

If it wasn't for XIII coming out in 2 weeks, I'd probably stop stalling and just buy Uncharted 2 already. Been meaning to for months, but there's just been so many good games lately that it keeps getting pushed back.

Why are so many of those decisions wrong?

Brutal Legend was fun, yes. But it was definitely not Strategy/Sim of the year. Soundtrack? Sure, it deserves that.

Over ODST? I beg to differ, my friend.

@Dr.: I always think Bungie made games should sweep the sound awards, but I've never played Brutal Legend so I'm not qualified to give at least an impression of fair thought on the subject.

But yeah, ODST's soundtrack was sublime. As to be expected from Marty.

Soundtrack and Score (Original Music Composition) were separate categories. So unless ODST was using licensed music, it wouldn't be in the same competition with Brutal Legend.

ODST wasn't using licensed music, so yes Brutal Legend deserved it over an unqualified game. And it wasn't better than Uncharted 2's score in my opinion, so it didn't deserve that award either.

Really monopolized awards, given last year's diversity of goodness. Not saying Uncharted 2 doesn't deserve it, just that it seemed like they tried to pick as few games as possible to give awards to (evident in other categories too, like Scribblenauts taking absolutely everything handheld related)

No. He was downvoted because he said that the awards were monopolized. WOW, Scribblenauts took absolutely EVERYTHING handheld related - 3 awards lol. The game was innovative, what the hell did you expect? But I guess that it shouldn't have won Portable Game of the Year. Bowser's Inside Story would have been a better pick.

@Traceur 10 sec. like everytime for me and I mainly play regular team deathmatch. The only time it goes fast it starts me in a round that's ending then I get the joy of waiting the intermission out before I get to play.

With MAG so far in every mode I click and boom NEW match right away it's awesome. I'm lvl 58 valor so I've play it for a little while.

With Uncharted 2 matchmaking is fast too for me. I only play deathmatch but right away it finds players.
