DICE 2010: Uncharted 2 wins like everything at Interactive Achievement Awards

When we awarded Uncharted 2 our top spot in 2010, we simply thought we were aligning ourselves with other people with impeccable taste; however, after reading the results from last night's 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards (i.e., the DICE awards) we've discovered that we've also aligned ourselves with the entire video game development community. While we only bestowed a single award on Naughty Dog's latest outing, the Academy dropped ten awards on ol' Nathan Drake and friends, including Outstanding Achievement in Game Play Engineering ... oh, and Game of the Year. While Uncharted 2 was the hands-down "winner" last night, there were 17 other awards handed out (some of which we're sure Uncharted would have won, had it been eligible). Other familiar names on the list (which can be found in its entirety after the break) include: Batman: Arkham Asylum, with three awards; Scribblenauts, with three awards; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with two awards; and Brütal Legend, with two awards.

Congratulations to all the winners. Oh, and let's just give Naughty Dog all its awards at once from now on; it's tough to make award-winning games without any cartilage in your knees.

It's pathetic to put UC2 up against a FPS. Just enjoy the accolades it has and stop trying to claim it as "Teh Bestest Game Evar". -It's not.

I bet MW2 sold more units ALONE on the 360.

Btw, I had UC2.. Played it up to the museum, then sold it to a friend for 40 bucks. It's not for everyone. Then again, I never liked Tomb Raider, so...

Out of curiosity, how long is Uncharted 2? I'm 50% through the 1st and it doesn't even feel like I've been playing it that long.

It's quite a bit longer than the first.

Maybe you've played longer than it feels because it has sucked you in?

For both games, I kept feeling like I was on the last chapter and almost done, and then something would happen, and we'd be off to more chapters.

I'm glad there was more game for me to play, but I kept wondering if the games would end at all.

I didn't bother checking my progress, It's the same reason I hate adverts as a cue to how much is left of a TV program, or checking my watch when I'm at the cinema, I like my entertainment to run it's course without me knowing how near the end I am, and I thought this was more than satisying in it's length.

wth? UC2 isnt a casual family game?

Uncharted 2 was far from boring but still I dont understand all the praise its getting, Production values were great but the gameplay itself was extremely linear. Your basic 3rd person shooter, with a small dose of car chases thrown in for good measure. I had no desire to play through the campaign again after I finished it the first time.

Batman should have taken GOTY.

While Batman was great indeed, it followed the path of many great games before it. The last boss was the worst thing I have truly seen in my life as well.

Seriously? Uncharted 2 is far from boring.

Batman was a great game and a serious GOTY contender... until Uncharted 2 was released. Uncharted 2 set a new premiere standard in acting, animation, and cinematic game play. The graphics in the game are mind blowing and the incredibly well composed original score only compliments the masterpiece.

The style of game play very much resembles Metal Gear Solid 4. Was it linear in sequences of events? Yes, it needed to be in order to sustain the cinematic experience. However, each scenario given to the player allowed for multiple ways of going forward. If you only played through the game once then you need to play through again to understand this. Many parts of the game presented you with the option of "going Rambo" or "going Snake (stealth)" and of course you could always mix the two back snapping a couple of necks before breaking out the grenades and AR.

Uncharted 2 was a rare gem of a game and it deserves all of the praise it is has received.

Uncharted 2 was definitely not boring. Idk bout you but I nearly shat myself during running across the coapsing bridge.

There's nothing wrong with linearity. Its the only way to tell a great, condensed story without watering it down.

My friend played Uncharted 2 for the first time last night, and within the first five minutes he couldn't believe how much it felt like you were actually PLAYING a high budget action movie.

I can't think of a single other game other than Half Life that has evoked such a response.

Main reason I always put it off is because I didn't play the first one. In terms of story, is 2 something I can play independent of the original, or do I need to start from the beginning?

Uncharted 2 is a separate story from the original Uncharted so you will be able to fully understand the story and what is going on. However, you will not fully understand some of the characters.

Uncharted 1 is a great game as well so if you have the time and money, play both. Otherwise, go ahead and just play Uncharted 2.

Here in NYC, if you go to the CEX (trade/sell) stores, you can find at least a Dozen copies of UC2. That's how I got mine. So I don't think there's that much of a re-play value.

The online is great if you can stand 3rd person.

I got mine at Game Stop here in Brooklyn, NY. This game deserves all the award it has gotten and more. Only on PlayStation. This high quality of games can only be done and found on the ultimate dream gaming machine aka PlayStation 3. Heavy Rain Feb 25th God of War III March 16th. Naughty Dog congrats and keep making PERFECT games.

Nice one Amy! Now ditch this shitty game and get a remake of Blood Omen green lighted!
