I feel bad for the competition like Direct2Drive but I really love Steamworks. Its awesome that I can buy the title from the store, tie it to my Steam account and also be able to download it from their servers just as if I bought it from there!

I'm curious as to how much Steamworks prevents piracy? I believe it at least prevents day-zero piracy.

Sigh, if only Assassin's Creed 2 used this system. : (

Direct to Drive ...perhaps they'll be bought out by Steam?

F**k Direct2Drive, their whole stance was that you shouldn't be forced to install a client like Steam to enjoy a PC game.

Apparently they don't realise they are owned by IGN, who own GameSpy, whose client you are forced to install when you download other games (including Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Borderlands, both of which Steam will happily sell you).

Morons.

And people wonder why Direct2Drive can't compete with Steam.

Well, that and the insane prices.

Right, because we should just hand Gabe Newell the keys to all downloadable PC games.

That'd go well.

Steam is the gold standard. If Xbox Live we would just make the games on demand service work right that being I should be able to download any new game as they come out that would be great.

Russian games can be hit or miss but at least they are always a little weird.

So, it just means it's a Steam game?

You know, it's funny, I never used Steam (except for HL2 when it launched and The Ship ages ago) and didn't even play PC games much for a long time until a month or so ago when I got TF2. Since then I've bought the X-Com series, Rome: Total War, and I'm thinking about getting Killing Floor. Steam's a pretty cool service, though I don't have the PC strength (or download speed) for "newer" games.

Killing Floor is hella fun, I gifted it to my friend and he's addicted, and I'm back into it as well after a bit of a hiatus.

The vids I've seen look pretty neat, and I've heard it's like Left 4 Dead but with real teamwork, not "You need a teammate to rescue you from this unavoidable attack". It also reminds me a lot of Painkiller, which is always a good thing.

How does slow-mo work in it, though? It's blowing my mind.

Slow-mo seems like it randomly happens at first, but usually impressive kills are what sets it off. Most of the time, killing big enemies or large groups of enemies will get it, and then if a berserker or commando get kills during slow-mo, the time gets extended if their level is high enough, 3 I think is when you get the extensions.

I might feel excited for this game if GoW3 wasn't coming out on the same day.

You are only allowed to play one game at a time. This is a law. If you break it, I will ensure a guilty verdict.

Objection! This evidence clearly conflicts with that statement.

Dr. Blight, you do know what Joystiq is, right?

You have seen that little note at the bottom of the website that says something about the Weblogs Inc Network, and how Joystiq is a member, right?

You know full well, that Joystiq, Engadget, Autoblog and all the other little sites are "blogz," RIGHT!?

Sorry, I ask a lot of rhetorical questions when I'm tired.

Eitherway, I'm glad Joystiq didn't cover it, it doesn't really have anything to do with video games.

Okay, for some one who still shops in store and prefers a hard copy of games. (not that I mind steam, or purchasing a game online.. I still have gift cards I would like to use though) if I purchased this game, would it be installed through steam like Dawn of War 2?

You would be prompt to install the Steam client, then the game data will be installed from the disc (game will not install unless it detects Steam client first). You save bandwidth not having to retrieve data from Steam's servers.
