I did, but was too long ago to remember the name of it, Bioshock was more recent... In fact, I never played, I just remember being a crappy game for the original NES or something... :D

Go ahead, just down vote, who gives a crap...

No. It's a 3d sliding blocks puzzle, where sliding the blocks into place (on different sides of the objects) allows you to complete machines, which then start working.

There are some pipes, but also cogs (duh) and other mechanical elements.

In short, it has nothing much to do with the hacking game in bioshock.

Yeah, you pretty much got downvoted because you went the ignorant little troll route. Meaning you didn't know shit, so you talked shit, because you ain't shit.

Cogs won because it was not only a fresh new take on the sliding puzzle tradition, but the graphics were well produced, GUI was top notch and it all looked like you're playing inside a mechanism, and the puzzles get devlishly hard. In other words, Cogs was a damn fine game, and deserves the honor.

Looks easier than first-person tetris.

I actually have this cogs game. I bought it off steam during their Christmas sale when it was like 2 dollars. Still haven't even played it, though.

COGS was great. I can think of some better indie games, but COGS definitely deserves to be recognized.

Jesus can people stop ripping off Pipe Dream (yes I'm looking at you too Bioshock) and make something NEW?

Can people stop bitching about everything being a rip off and just enjoy good games?

And have you actually played COGS? It may be a puzzle game that features pipes but it plays nothing like Pipe Dream.

@ Zappa - Er... Yeah, it does play like Pipe Mania. It's the same (albeit, infinitely more complex) mechanical puzzles introduced in Pipe Mania, its 'sequels' and its clones. But then again, that's like saying Lumines plays like Tetris just because they are both about fitting falling blocks together.

Not saying it's a bad thing either, there's only so many 'traditional' puzzle game formulas out there that you can build upon without making an action/adventure game. Cogs is a brilliant puzzler, and it goes above and beyond being a Pipe Mania clone with the sheer complexity of its mechanical workings... But at its very core, it's Pipe Mania.

-----
@ Gaddes - When's the last time you played anything NEW? Everything has its foundations in something. You'll not find a more simple foundation then the underlying design of Pipe Mania, and kudos to Lazy 8 for implementing it into such a great game. It doesn't feel like Pipe Mania at all if you actually play it, one could say it feels pretty NEW.

@granger:
It's not really much like pipe mania.
Pipe mania is like tetris... you have a sequence of parts and you have to rotate and place them to fit them together.
Bioshock isn't much like pipe mania, as you have no sequence, you're turning over random tiles and have to re-arrange them to make your pipe. But i guess it's a little close.
Cogs is nothing like pipe mania. It's a sliding block puzzle. Like the ones I used to have as a kid (not video games). You start with all the pieces on the board at the beginning and you have to try to maneuver them into the right position.
It doesn't often even involve pipes. (but then neither did some later versions of pipe mania).

It's more like a sliding block puzzle meets incredible machine.
