According to information collected by AppData, the FarmVille player base passed the 80 million mark yesterday. We'll give you a second to soak that in. It might help you digest it if we present the number numerically: 80,920,421. Or, perhaps you need another point of reference: That's almost the population of Germany. If you tried to orally count the number of people currently playing FarmVille, it would take you close to four years. And God only knows how large the player base would be then.
In related news, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus recently bought a yacht for his yacht. It's just a smaller yacht, that rests precariously on the bow of the larger yacht, in case the larger yacht breaks down. A lifeyacht, if you will.

Still haven't played it, just so I don't get addicted and waste all my time on it.

I prefer Country Story.
Now, I really can't believe people saying FarmVille is not a game. Why is FarmVille not a game? Because you don't like it?

My Dad is obsessed with this and whilst I use Facebook Lite to avoid game updates, it wasn't working for a few days recently and seeing every minute update in Farmville across several friends and family is really bloody annoying.
He's started Mafia Wars too, so he can get some super-duper trinket for his farm. This is the guy who used to lambast me for playing the PSX hours on end.

I'd blab on about how this isn't gaming news but the lifeyacht joke made up for it.

I know for a fact that a couple of people I know have made several new accounts just to get more neighbours in that game. And if they are doing it I suspect a lot of others are too. So while a lot of people are no doubt playing it, they certainly don't have 80 million unique players.

Just to clarify 80 million people may have tried it once, but are 80 million people actively playing it? I tried it for about 30 minutes and gave up. Am I an active user?
