In a letter recently distributed (.pdf link) to the company's investors, Nippon Ichi president Tomohiro Sato announced that he would be stepping down from his managerial post on March 31. Sato cites "personal reasons" as the force leading him to resign, though this news comes only two weeks on the heels of Nippon Ichi's announcement of its 98 percent year-over-year revenue decline, and resulting JASDAQ freefall.
Though we may not undoubtedly know what led to Sato's departure, we're really hoping this is just part of Nippon Ichi's restructuring process, and that we're one step closer to getting our hands on Absolute Hero Modding Project. Ever the pragmatists, we are.
Update: Tomohiro Sato is actually the company's head of Sales and Marketing. The current president, Sohei Shinkawa, is not stepping down. We apologize for the mix-up.

I wish more USA executives would step down for "personal reasons." Instead, they get to ride the freefall and walk away with millions while others suffer.
This seems like an odd announcement coming after NIS decided to get into the anime industry. Not exactly the best time for that.

Year over year revenue decline? Always amazes me that a company can have some of the best, most recognizable games out there and still manage to lose money. There's something broken about that system.

Best and most recognizable? NIS is an extremely niche developer/publisher. Sure, I enjoy Disgaea as well, but it's not exactly a blockbuster seller.
Of course, their revenue drop includes revenue from Japan, too... so many Japanese gamers are just tired of their stuff, too.

Am I the only one who sees "Nipple Itchy" in Nippon Ichi?

That's what I thought Mai Shiranui was saying for so many years...

Looking at the stock price, it looks like the shareholders and investors put enough pressure on Sato after all. Doesn't look good for NIS on the surface, but it might turn around when they issue their complete restructuring plan.

I love Nippon. Even though I'll admit some of there recent attempts are bombing. They're always going to get my support though, d00d (who can resist). Hope with some new guidance, they can show people a truly next gen SRPG (*cough*Valkyria Chronicles).
