Once again, joystiq seems rather alone in its cold reception of this game. I remember when this happened before.

Though i will agree that i share many of the same concerns. It seems like they flipped the problem that they had in RS1 (that the gun was everything and the sword was just for show), and it does seem like the combat is unintuitive, such that it seems entirely to involve waiting for weaknesses to be exposed, then going to town, which is really not the joy of swordfighting (where it's up to *you* to find a weakness)

The issue here is that this game may not capture the joy of swordfighting. They had a good example set with Wii Sports Resort (I loved the Showdown mode there), but it really doesn't seem like this is the motion plus game that was promised

Though other sites are saying good things, so i'll need to see more data.

Wow, this is awkward. I was replying to Mr. All-Caps whose comment just got zapped in its entirety. Now not only does my comment make no sense, but it appears that I am insulting Mr. Khan, which is absolutely not my intent. So, my apologies, Khan my good fellow.

Once again, joystiq seems rather alone in its cold reception of this game. I remember when this happened before.....
It twas a cool evening, one you would expect in November. However, one glance at my calandar reminded me it was Febuary 22, 2010. The cold winter breeze brushed up against my cheekbones, reminding me of my inner mortality. I quietly reflected apon the events that occured that evening, lost in pleasent thought.
Joystiq, how could thou betray me? How could thou be so cruel. It twas as if a dagger had slipped between my ribs, the warm blood drizzling down my garments.
But I was alive and well to see the day, unfortunately my inner mortality became even more apparent as a single tear rolled down my face.
How had this events come to occur? The innocence that joystiq once had, lost forever in a shroud of mist...

To be Continued.....

@ Brodo

This shroud of mist was as misty as fog. I was unaible to comprehend the inability of the joystiq viewers to express their oppinions without being jerks. It really was a confusing prospect. But now that I thought about it hadn't I once been that ignorant. Yes, yes I had. These people shouldn't be critised for their foolish ways they must be saved!

And so begun my epic quest.

Looks like Joustiq send a HATER to test this game... Sad... Well, there are a lot of Wii haters out there... Sad, but nothing special...

It isn't, especially since this is Ubisoft we're speaking of here. However, it is a stark contrast to other impressions of the game.

Of course, we don't know the whole story going on here. Maybe someone at Ubisoft kicked Mr. Yoon's puppy, and that put him in a very sour mood prior to the preview. Or it's possible Ubisoft paid off the other members of the press for some good press. Maybe Andrew just played a bad build of the game, while other previewers played a good one.

There's many unknown factors here. But with a keen eye for details, one truth prevails.

So was this 2009 article posted, because someone here didn't get an invite to test the latest build or what?

It's because of the embargo he mentioned in the article. He couldn't give his impressions until today.

Yeah I have seen the mention of embargo , but I've also seen other previews mentioning that they played the game just very recently. So I'm wondering why a site would put up an article written in 2009 about playing a build from that time, when we have 2010 and seemingly plenty of other outlets were shown and able to play a current build.

Of course, it'd be a shame to not let people read this grand piece of work at least now, instead of writing a new one that is based on a build closer to what they will put in stores. Must've taken a lot of time and effort after all that lengthy and witty article.

Dear crazy person,

It's idiots like you that make Wii fanboys look like crazy people.

No one said that the Wii's AAA games are bad, just a simple wish that maybe..just maybe.. we could have higher resolutions on our several year old HD screens.

I have no idea what you were talking about with dual shock coming out in the 1600's or that thing about the Dreamcast. Honestly, you must be very tired, disturbed... or drunk. But that's alright.

All in all, control mechanisms are an preference. Some of us like motion, some of us like regular pads. However, a simple thing like screen resolution, is not a preference. Sure graphics don't matter, but I'd at least like to SEE the bad graphics clearly. HD TVs have been around for over half a decade....think about that. That's how behind the Wii is in it's refusal to output to a higher resolution.

I shouldn't have to boot up my Spice colored GC to play the best and clearest version of Twilight Princess on my LCD tv, simply because the composite cables on that produced a much higher quality picture than the ones made for the Wii.

So calm down, take a smoke break, and calmly listen to what our gripes our.

Sincerely,
Everyone else.

At least the game looks cool. Sad to hear it offers a shallow experience since this was a game lots of wii owners were anticipating. I hate it when promising looking titles don't live up to their expectations. The first game was complete and utter trash so it's hard to be that surprised that the sequel is also underwhelming, though obviously not terrible like part 1.

No more heroes had a good foundation from which to build upon in a sequel, red steel didn't. As is the case with every exclusive on every platform people will say joystiq is biased and they are being unfair.

It's one persons opinion who gets paid to critique games for a living. There is no vendetta ... He just thought it sucked in the state in which he played it. Look at heavy rain, Justin said it was terrible and Randy loved it ... One isn't more right than the other. Just different opinions.

TL;DR

Cut the crap Al3xand3r.

What the.. they still complain about the controller?. Well no one i think unless is nintendo themselves are going to do something very perfect with the M+ there is speed, reaction and other stuff. Wii sport resort sword play was accurate but your enemies weren't fast or very smart. This game gives a lot of hope for more hardcore gaming on wii and they always look at it with skepticism. Im just glad is coming out. Anyway if you complaint you can alwways practice with tha fatkid at youtube with the ninja techniques.

The only critique I can give was something the dev. said at the PAX demo. (You were there right? No? You were with everyone else oggling the Star Wars: Old Republic. I thought so, since there was only about a dozen or so people watching, and playing, RS2 at that time)
He made a point of saying that this wasn't meant as a fencing simulator. I can see that as a good choice since people may be frustrated if precision (even presuming the Wiimote or any controller is accurate) is required.
The other points I can accept, mostly because they were a fear of mine for this game. I'm hoping it was just an early level, as the Kotaku previews have stated it gets more fun when you have to mix the gun and sword play.
In truth, I'm always glad to see a dissenting preview, especially when everyone else gushes over something that turns out not-so-good (Scribblenauts). I hope this game overcomes these problems, as I like pulling out the Wiimote.

Now I'm confused. The Kotaku hands-on put my hopes up for this game, buut this one seems to say the complete opposite. >_
