GamePro has dropped some details on the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV, which is due out in March. The site has word that Capcom will sell the game for $9.99 on Apple's App Store, and that it will feature a total of eight characters: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel. While it hasn't shared any gameplay impressions yet, it did post a video, which you can see after the break. Surprisingly, the game looks just like Street Fighter IV, with the ultra moves, same colorful art style and other graphical touches from the bigger console versions.
We're still not sure about playing with the touchscreen "buttons," though -- while they aren't in the way as much as we thought from the original screenshots (most of the fighting takes place in the middle of the screen), not having that tactile feedback could be a problem. Still, the game looks good. No exact release date yet, but like all those people hanging out in the backgrounds of these fights, we'll be watching.

You can have as many or as little characters as you want, but it will always somehow be Ken vs. Ken.

LMAO, that is so wrong.
Capcom is not really a culprit with the franchise. SF been around since 1991. Look at games like Guitar Hero that only started recently and it already has as much titles.

I don't see this being playable. If Earthworm Jim isn't playable on the iPhone what makes you think a game that is hardly playable with a regular controller work on an iPhone?

Well... It works. I was just getting at how bad the controls are. Along with nearly every other iPhone port.

As a big SF fan the very thought of a touch screen controller makes me cringe. It's not even playable with the regular Xbox controller. Touch screens need an entirely different class of games.

I just wonder how many epic failures are going to have to be released on the iPhone for developers to realize that if you want to make a good iPhone game, you have to make it FOR THE iPHONE.
Ports.
Blah.

C'mon Capcom, this was the perfect time to revitalize Pocket Fighter, they could have even went with Super Puzzle Fighter IV.

Touch controls or not this looks AMAZING!!! The fact that they were able to get this kind of quality out of the iPhone is unreal.
For $10 bucks I'll take the plunge.

There's a reason why this game only costs ten bucks, while if it were on the PSP (or DS) it would cost $30 or more. It's likely to be a real piece of crap; an unplayable game with nice, ported, graphics. Does it even come with a "seal of approval?"
Personally, it makes me wonder: If it has touchscreen controls, why isn't this game on the DS? Generally, it takes a second developer to make DS-specific games, and with the quality of titles on the DS, they have to do an amazing job of it, or suffer the backlash of bad reviews.
The Apple environment is still a wild, disorganized, country. And it's possible to release all kinds of crap with little risk. That's why you can port a game (likely a demo version) with nice graphics and terrible gameplay.

the graphics looks amazing; I wonder if they'll release it later for the PSP, maybe as a PSP Mini title for the same price. At least there we'll have somewhat better controls.

Just because you can port games to the iPhone doesn't mean you SHOULD. How would this even work without buttons? Playing games on the iPhone almost universally sucks.
