A bit of a kick in the teeth, given that they've been hyping it as a WiiWare title from square one, and now port it to another platform, earlier, with more features.

Nintendo even gave them some free advertising back at E3 and all...

In my defense, I was informed by a couple of effeminate weirdos that you were crazy, and I wanted to gauge said craziness.

I can sympathize with their motives, but as a Nintendo fanboy, I still can't help but feel like this is a giant kick in the nuts.

Isn't that what it means to be a Nintendo fanboy anymore? I know that's why I stopped blindly following Nintendo, my nuts just couldn't take another hit.

Maybe they found out (like so many other developers) how poor WiiWare titles actually sell on the Wii, especially compared to XBLA.

who cares what/when its released on, its a flash game that you can play for free right now!

Umm, it's an all new game built from the ground up with a brand new engine. Refusing to play it based on the flash version already existing would be like refusing to play Super Mario World because you've already played Super Mario Brothers.

Yeah, I am definitely a loyal Nintendophile, but frankly, if I were a developer trying to make a game for a downloadable service, there would be very little in the way of incentive for choosing WiiWare over either of the other platforms. On the dev side, there's less space, less power, less promotion, arguably less consumers, and much more shovelware to try and distinguish oneself from; on the player side, there's no Achievements/Trophies and inferior online connectivity. The Virtual Console is great, but it's REALLY time that Nintendo stepped up its online strategy in every other area.

WiiWare is the market of choice for flash gamers, as the expectations aren't that high, and the small quantity of games available on it gives this more power to be a killer app. I still believe that PSN and XBLA don't have their killer apps, Braid is cool, but it's not for everyone.

Wherelese Super Meat Boy is one of the most fun you will ever have in a platformer.

Free flash game featured long ago on Freeware Friday. I'm not paying for it.

Joystiq, I propose that this game should not ever be referred to as SMB. That one's taken, and the whole GoW action is bad enough.

N was a great free Flash game and I was happy to pay 10 bucks for a ton more content in N+ on XBLA. I don't really understand that argument (though I would absolutely agree in encouraging people to go play the free Flash game!). SMB is not taken in a post where I only refer to Super Meat Boy and never to Super Mario Bros. (in which case, of course, it would be confusing).

It's also getting a ton of new content, so I don't see what the problem with buying a more fully featured version and supporting the developer's efforts is.

N+, flOw, and Alien Hominid went the same route, and Cave Story is as well. If it's good, why not pay? You can still play the free versions if you'd like, so it's not like they are trying to swindle money from their fans.

@ Ben- I was just being facetious with the acronym thing. Though I really can't help seeing Super Mario Bros when I see SMB. I didn't realize it was getting that much new content.

@ Granger- I'm all about supporting independent developers, especially if they are bringing something fresh. I don't know that SMBoy is bringing anything fresh per se, but it's an amazingly tight, fast, and fun game. Though it does seem more suitable to portable platforms.
