Citing the truly horrific recent success of Valentine's Day as an example, The Telegraph examined the effect that the popularity of video games is having on movies. As some studio executives see it, if more guys than ever have controllers in their hands, it doesn't leave much room for ticket stubs, meaning movies aimed at the ladies are performing better than ever.
Hey Ladies: We just want to apologize that the game industry's inability to make titles you'd be interested in has forced you into watching movies that are relevant to your interests but also very terrible. Hopefully one of these industries will wise up soon. That, or you'll learn to like movies about Jason Statham building a car that can transform into an explosion. Either way.

Do women still swoon over guys that claim to like The Notebook or have they caught on to that trick?

I've thought about it, and there's no way I'd be able to tell a girl I like Twlight with a straight face.

incorrect, the new "Notebook" is "Dear John". My friend took two different dates to see it and he got laid both times!

Their theory doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you consider that a lot of chick flick movie tickets are purchased by men during the course of a date.

I think they're assuming that the men with dates aren't gamers.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my favorite movie of all time, and I am not afraid to admit it.

Not trying to be a jerk at all, but, is that actually a chick movie? regardless of POV... that movie is totally amazing so if others see it as a chick flick i'm totally down on it. I am also a fan of The Lake House... i know my man card has been pulled but i really enjoyed it.

That isn't a dumb chick flick but, or even a chick flick. One of my favourite films too.

I don't really think it's a chick flick, but I could see how others would think that and I'd be okay with that.

Yeah, I dont know many "chicks" who are into Jim Carrey. Any woman who has seen Ace Ventura cannot unsee him as anything but a cheesy pet detective.
I like both movies though. ESOSM is really a deconstructivist thriller. Anyone who likes it is just an intelligent person, regardless of whats on the other side of their ass. And good looking too.

I enjoy the occasional chick flick and I love video games, is there something wrong with me?
Posted: Feb 23rd 2010 10:44PM CaramelZappa said
Yes, you are not allowed to like more than one type of media or enjoy works in different "opposing" genres. It's unheard of.

What does it say about me if I genuinely thought Valentine's Day was a mostly delightful movie experience?

Wait, chick flick as in this Valentine's Day example or Twilight crap?

One more thing Joystiq you sent me a damn chick flick in the mail for Joyswag! I never did watch it though but as to why "They Ugly Truth" would be considered any sort of prize is unthinkable.

I'm sorry but I a woman, I play video games and I like watching explosions, transforming robots and blue/pointy eared aliens. I hate "chick flicks" and I never pay money to watch them unless I get peer pressured into it by a gaggle of my female friends. D:
Twilight fails by the way. I feel bad for all you guys out there who are forced to go see it with your gals. As compensation just watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sILnTjYlNxc) and the next time you have to watch Twilight you can at least find some amusement in it. :D
