Even though I think iPod Touch and iPhone are useless with music (yeah), I really want one just for the apps, a fantastic timewaster on the move.

Any reason why they're useless with music? Is it just the devices specifically, or is it all digital music players?

I don't get it. I'm listening to music on one right now. I guess vikings just don't understand this newfangled technology, since it really can't be adapted to raping and pillaging and whatnot.

Useless might be a bit harsh, but I much prefer a standard Creative mp3 player. The iPod Touch is just not as user friendly when in a hurry. If I am walking in the city, I need to be able to navigate through the basic stuff from the pocket without looking at it. The iPod touch requires so many clicks and touches to do simple things. It's a fantastic piece of technology, I just don't like it as an MP3 player.

When I'm out-and-about and listing to music on my iPhone, I tend to use the voice commands combined with the little button on the ear bud cord. Works pretty well most of the time, though sometimes it doesn't understand what I'm saying if I'm in a particularly noisy area.

The only viking that understand music technology is TechnoViking. I'm not surprised by your answer.

I believe it's because these are ports of Final Fantasy I and II on the PSP which were also sold separately.

On the upside there's a very good chance these will sell at 10 bucks a pop. On the PSP they both still retail at $20!

um... how many times do they have to repackage these games? seriously, if you didn't get them for the nes you could have got them for the ps1 or the gba. If you haven't played these games yet you probably never will.

Bit cynical, I haven't played them despite being a ff fan. On the iPod though I doubt the price will exceed 10 dollars, it will have pap update graphics and hopefully well implemented touch controls. There's a massive iPhone install base and they can count me as a customer!

Europe getting something first (well, at least UK) is just crazy.
Even though it's nice for UK to be acknowledged, I would much rather have a simultaneous world release, so nobody loses.

They are awaiting on app store approval. They probably got their app disapproved for something sexual, female heroes and civilians.

Wouldn't it be funny if the iPhone got a remake of FFVII before the PS3?

Oh, but it already is on iphone...

(Yes, I realize this requires jailbreaking and runs extremely poor...)

Based on some other ports I've seen to the iphone (Street Fighter 4, Resident Evil 4, nazi zombies), I wouldn't be surprised to see the iphone managing to run a proper FF7 port... I just think it would be too big to properly download from the app store, even on wifi.

Does anyone know if these are direct ports gameplay-wise, or updated with some more modern elements? FF1 was a spectacular game in it's day, though playing through in this age are some really bad design elements. Like for example there's only 1 type of heal potion, for only 30hp, that you'll need to stock up 99 of before leaving towns, buying 1 potion at a time, requiring three clicks of the A button for each purchase. Also it annoyed me you couldn't speed up the text scrolling speed in battles.
