We can only imagine that if Kratos were a real person (wait -- he's not?), the idea of having to wait for God of War 3 to install a portion of itself onto the PS3's hard disk wouldn't sit too well with the rage-filled Spartan. Heck, even we don't dig mandatory installs. It's a good thing, then, that God of War 3 won't have one -- this according to Sony Santa Monica director of technology, Christer Ericson.
Ericson stated via Twitter that, "God of War 3 does NOT do a HD install. The 5MB listed on box back is for save game only." This is in stark contrast to other games (yes, we're talking about you, Devil May Cry 4) that require -- nay, demand! -- multi-gigabyte mandatory installations. Of course, for some, the ability to install an entire game to the PS3 hard disk, potentially cutting down on loading time is a welcome option -- but it won't be for GOW3. "No there is no HD install option," Ericson replied when asked if the game will allow for it.
Given that the final back cover of the God of War 3's box only lists the 5MB space requirement, this pretty much rules out the game secretly carving out HDD space for caching data -- data that would eventually translate into images of Kratos carving up enemies on-screen.

just popped in Heavy Rain and at first there is 226 mb update download. On release day? seriously? And a 4GB install. I like what they did to pass the install time away though. When you open the game case you will find a square piece of paper. During the install there are directions on screen on how to make origami with it. And it worked. I finished my origami just as the install finished. Pretty nice. Why am I still typing when I should be playing the damn game already?

I agree with the sentiment of wanting the OPTION to install an entire game, using the disc only as a security check. I have a 320GB and installing a few gigs for performance is fine by me. Or maybe even the option to do a background install during the opening scenes or level of a game would be okay.
But as long as the game works and makes me happy, I'm fine with whatever. The Heavy Rain install was the best ever - it has you fold an origami figure while it installs, and (if you've never done one before), you end up finishing practically the second the install ends. Awesome.

It's been a long time since I played GOW 1+2. I apparently forgot about him killing her. Sorry about that!

I noticed for resolution, it lists 480p,720p,1080i... i specifically remember them saying that the game was able to render in 1080p @ 60fps. evidently it was dropped. oh well.

Good. We'll see how it performs in terms of loading and what not. It seems that some games on the PS3 are forcing installation just because, without offering a significant benefits, other than allowing you to have a sandwich or 2.
