Huh...that really sucks. Why not just release a downloadable patch as well?

This is why:
http://hackmii.com/2009/02/why-the-wii-will-never-get-any-better/

Basically, the way the system archetecture was designed makes it a virtually impossibility. So, they have to do a recall.

@ Tigre

Jesus! are you serious?! i just read what was on that link and thought to myself "wow"! so when i (or anyone else for that matter) update my Wii it's only for security patches and NOT bug fixes? i mean from what i read in the link you posted it seems that game patches will never happen on the Wii. all this time i thought they were fixing bug's in certain game's. boy was i ever wrong.

I'm damn glad the Wii doesn't allow people to patch their game later. Makes them put in some effort to release a finished product, unlike what happens with PC games and some games on the other two consoles. And when bugs do happen, you get a new fully "patched" disk. One that is guaranteed to work properly on any Wii, now and in the future, even without an internet connection.

Case in point: try to buy and play any original Xbox game that needed patches, now. lol

@bm

The only problem with that is most developers don't have the resources of Namco Bandai to recall the game. It's a GOOD thing to have the ability to patch games post launch. It's not like all these games shipped unfinished and they just patch it later, but on Wii, they wouldn't even have the option to patch it later. No patching in additional features or additional content after the fact either ... thats the flip side you are ignoring.

And how many times have you seen that happen? You don't see it normally because developers -know- they can't patch, so they make damn well sure they don't have to. It's a crutch that leads to broken games, and eventually the kind of thing on the original xbox I pointed out.

And about the additional content, doesn't ToG have DLC? (I know the Guitar Hero games on the Wii do.) I heard about it and frankly I was disappointed. I like my games complete, on disk.

sucks for the Japanese. They get a lot of the games first, but at least the rest of us don't have to deal with the other bullshit. Why can't we have FF13 already? :(

I like to think of Japan as one big beta testing phase. Let them suffer while we reap the benefits!

You'd think that all the money they get off of the DLC they put in all of their games would go towards testing it. Hm.

Muramasa is kind of an RPG in that you both take on the role of a character and can level up.

@Hooded Miracle: It's even by that Final Fantasy XII guy!!

But seriously, aside from Virtual Console, there honestly isn't much in the way of Wii RPGs at the moment. There's Tales of Symphonia 2, but that seems to be kind of a love-it-or-hate-it game, and only worth playing if you were a fan of the first one. Super Paper Mario and Muramasa are only RPGs in a loose sense of the word; Baroque, Phantom Brave and Sakura Wars are all available on PS2, and if you're an RPG fan, chances are you already have one of those. However, there are a number of promising-looking RPGs coming out for the system over the next year or two. Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of Graces, Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Dragon Quest X are all promising-looking games that you ought to check out if you're looking for Wii RPGs and don't mind waiting for them to come out.

I'd NOT recommend tales of symphonia 2. That crap is an anime-cliche fest (its VERY childish), but if you're into that sort of bullcrap you might wanna check it out.

Wii's super paper mario is completely different from its GC's older brother. I'd wait for monster hunter.

Rune Factory Frontier is great, also wait for Arc Rise Fantasia, it looks good and it comes out in march.

The projects of Xenoblade and Last story look promising just with the people behind them. but we know almost nothing about them yet.

There is also fire emblem, sakura wars and phantom brave, but I think of those more as strategy games.

And you can always get some gamecube games, like both Baten Kaitos, the Skies of Arcadia port and Tales of Symphonia.

After all these years of JRPGs, how did they even make such a mistake? By this point seems like a copy > paste job

Gee, that's wonderful Namco Bandai. While you're on your never ending drop in sales, how about you pull your head out of your asses and bring Tales of Graces to America along with Perfect Vesperia for PS3, so we can shower you with some cash. Please make sure they're both complete as well because I never was one for Beta testing.
