WayForward developing Batman: The Brave and the Bold game

It didn't take long after the announcement of Rocksteady's acquisition for WBIE to reveal the next Batman game. In fact, it's just really weird timing, because the next Batman game has nothing to do with Rocksteady and probably won't be anything like Arkham Asylum. But there's a chance that this Batman game will be surprisingly good, as well: it's being made by A Boy and His Blob/Contra 4/Shantae developer WayForward.

The publisher announced a Wii and DS game coming this fall based on the comedic Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon. The cooperative game will allow a second player to control another DC Comics hero, from a group including the Blue Beetle, Green Lantern, Robin, and Aquaman. Encouragingly, Plastic Man also appears on the box art and the splash image for the game's website. Connecting the DS version to the Wii version will allow a friend to use the DS to control the 5th Dimensional fanboy Bat-Mite in the Wii game.

Yes, Bat-Mite's in the (mass-market) game, and Blue Beetle and Plastic Man are both on the cover. Somehow, when we weren't looking, the world became a wonderful place for DC Comics nerds.

I don't think anyone will set their standard high for this game except for the 10yo who regular logs on to the internet and checks Joystiq daily.

I can't wait to play as Aquaman.

When I look at Batman's face in that cover art, I don't see a look of determination, I see a look of desperation and fear.

It kinda looks like he's trying to get away.

That's Plastic Man.

He's using his explosive batarang to break the confines of the box art and escape Plastic Man's....stretchy things.

Also, is Batman supposed supposed to be in London?

Very good point. I just they use sprites and not 3D. WayForward is very well known for their amazing 2D work.

this is based off of that recent show thats on Cartoon Network then meh....I cant get into that show at all....

Buy this game, so Blue Beetle won't die in the next DC crossover event.

I love the show. It's so campy and witty.

I don't have high hopes for the game tho. There's only one dev that can do Batman right to me.

Glad they tell the potential buyer that the Wii and DS packages contain an actual video game. Whew, thought that might get confusing there for a minute.

It better be like the old tv show. I'm talking words pop up when I hit someone, the bat theme, and that annoying announcer. And of coarse Adam West.

BTW -- the site mentions Green Lantern and Oa, and there is an Alan Scott statue in the "park."

I will buy this game if it even casually references my favourite green lantern: Mogo

Mogo is one badass green lantern, how he beat all those black lanters, incredible.

I just hope they use Hal instead of John or Guy. I havent seen the show in a while so idk which one comes out.

It's usually Guy in the show.

I've always wondered where the more modern materials-based heroes were. We have Plastic Man and Iron Man, but what about Carbon Fiber Man and Bucky Ball Man?

I'll pay attention to anything from WayForward, especially after A Boy & His Blob. With any luck, it'll be more hand drawn 2D, but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully they can make a Batman game that doesn't suck.

And you didn't like arkham asylum why?

Man, I'd love a Batman game for the Wii that doesn't suck. Could make for some interesting mechanics with the Wiimote for solving clues, firing Batarangs, grappling hooks, lockpicks, etc etc.

Too much stealth. It was cool at first but got old quick. The combat was awful too. It was very flashy and cinematic, but overly simplistic and not much fun to actually play. It lacked a sense of mechanical finesse and I found it boring.

Those are my issues with the game in a nutshell. I could elaborate further, but I'm unfortunately typing this on my phone.

Well, to each their own. Personally I thought the combat was great when you could manage to string together huge combos.

Yeah, far too much stealth. What they should have had was Batman wading in and beating the crap out of everyone without any thought of self preservation whatsoever. Cos he's got those mad invulnerable to bullets skills.

The question is...will Batman have a hug button?

They have had Guy, Hal, and the whole Core on, but I do not believe that John has appeared (though I could be mistaken).

I approve of this SO MUCH. Brave and the Bold is a FANTASTIC cartoon, and with Wayforward behind, it can only get so much better.

A Bat-Mite mode? I'm getting both versions.
