A piping-hot press release from Korean MMO developer Bluehole Studio has announced a new subsidiary for the company named En Masse Entertainment. Based in Seattle, En Masse will focus on "selecting high quality online games and adapting, refining, and positioning them so they are perfectly suited for audiences in Western markets." In other words, slightly reducing the size of everyone's swords. You know, just to the point where it looks reasonable that they could lift them off the ground.
According to the presser, the En Masse team features talent from other big players in the MMOverse, including Blizzard, EA, ArenaNet and NCsoft. It sounds like the studio's got a pretty experienced roster; whether or not they'll be able to get us excited about their first project -- a Westernized version of a Korean MMORPG called TERA -- remains to be seen.

Man...Korea gets all the good mmos.
First Dragon Ball, then Monster Hunter. This one looks pretty good too.
We can only hope our Korean overlords grace us with these titles.

looks good.. some nice art direction in that single screenshot. Curious about the world, assuming it ever sees the light of day outside of Korea, it may be worth checking out.

I was reading an interview with one of the localization guys on RPS, and he was unable to give a single solid answer as to how they're going to make the game more compelling for western audiences. Lots of fluff and PR-speak, but nothing like "we're going to reduce the XP grind" or "dungeon raids generally won't take more than 6 hours of your life away". When he's asked what they intend to tweak for western audiences to make it more appealing than previous Korean MMO offerings, his response can be boiled down to "we're going to translate the story from squiggly shapes into English".
It's the same spew MMO mouthpieces have been using for years: more immersive, player-driven, impact on the world, change the story by your actions... fairy dust and unicorns farting rainbows. Not that I would mind if they brought over a Korean MMO that wasn't masochistic to play, but this particular guy either has no clue or he's holding the cards pretty tight to his chest.

The giant race looks strikingly similar to the Galka from FFXI.
