First: Sorry about the obvious gag. Second: It seems several players are having an issue with their copy of Heavy Rain not only seizing up but (in a few cases) corrupting their save data; you can read all the stories on the PlayStation forums. Info is limited at the moment, but a Sony rep in the thread suggested the stopgap of waiting at least five minutes before rebooting if a freeze occurs. The rep seemed hopeful that measure would enough to avoid save data corruption.
Heavy Rain is intense enough without having to worry about losing your save data at any moment. Here's hoping we have word of a fix soon.

This is one of my most anticipated games for the PS3 and needless to say I have played it as much as I could since I got it. I have completed it and didn't run into any bugs at least any serious ones,

I loved this game, just finished it in 3 sittings (about 12.5 hours.) It never froze on me, but the audio would cut out every now and then for 1-3 seconds. I didn't miss out on any dialogue but it was really distracting.

I did not have this problem and I just beat the game, but I've heard this happening with others.

The game glitched on me while I was playing the "two years later" scene with dad and his other son. Got to the part where the dad's supposed to turn off the TV so that his son has to do homework in the kitchen. Well I had selected another action on accident even after the first action already executed and the decision wheel was disappearing. His son disappeared completely from the scene and I couldn't even move on with any other choices. Had to restart from the save point which luckily was right where the scene was at. It's the only glitch I've had so far. The game is AWESOME though!

Strangely when I loaded up the game and went to "New Story" it said it was going to install, but was already installed. I mean, the second the "game will now install" screen popped up, it already said "Game installed, press start to continue".
I saw a few framerate drops/stuttering issues, but nothing major. It did freeze on me once, right before it had loaded another mission, but it didn't really damage anything. I just had to restart my PS3 and it sent me right back to the mission I left off at.

I noticed during the demo the yellow HDD light was constantly blinking and I had something downloading in the background. I paused the download and let the loading have a second to catch up and my problems with framerate and glitchy audio were gone. I'm not saying this is the problem but maybe it will help some.

Glad I waited to play this. I will bump it down a notch or two in my game rental queue, and hopefully a patch will be out by the time I get around to it.

i had no problems tue nite and played for about 5 hrs but tonite the game froze after about 40 minutes, had to power off.
i may just wait until there is a new patch before restarting as it will be too annoying otherwise.

Zero freezing to me, but I did have some minimal graphic glitches. I did install the patch on release date, I read some people complaining that the patch actually causes the problem, but who knows...

easy fix :D Just delete the patch from your game data (worked for me at least).

Mine started stuttering during the first part, with audio cutting in and out. But didn't continue. Hopefully it doesn't happen more into the game.

It froze on me two times, and both times the cause was the controller going out of charge. Make sure you keep it hooked up via USB while playing this one until it is patched.

Made it as far as the 'killers apartment' scene when Madison froze and I couldn't do anything. Reset and tried to load, but got the black screen of death. Tried to load older chapters but it's the same story. Either I get to see the loading face and then the black screen or it simply goes to the black screen and hangs there frozen forever. HARD RESET and try again, but it's the same over and over.
I don't want to start all over from the beginning, so I hope this problem is patchable and not a corrupted save file...
After 9 hours of suffering little character glitches and lock downs, wonky frozen cameras and sub-par 'Europeans trying to pull of American accents with soft vowels' voice acting this is just the icing on the s#!t cake. Don't get me wrong, I am actually loving this game, when it lets me play.
It just grinds my gears.

Well finished my first play through.I had one freeze about 3/4 of the way Rebooted and realized I had less than a gig of space left on hdd (60g). I went through and deleted a bunch of bs and finished the game with no freezes or glitches. This happened once or twice before in the 3yrs I've owned the PS3 and each time I was sitting under a couple gigs of free space. So my plan is to put in a bigger hdd eventually and stop being lazy and use my external more. Some tips for cleaning up your hdd first off game data files as some installs are pretty beefy. If the install is short and you haven't played it in awhile chances are you'll be able to handle the brief install next time you play. Also delete old messages and if you use your browser a lot dump the cache, cookies and history. My bed is calling and the alarm will be ringing for work soon. But dammit I learned the identity of the Origami killer!

I had the game glitch twice at the crime scene with Norman, both near the end of the investigation
1) Walked past the ambulance at the edge of the screen - loud noise came on, screen went black. Start and select still worked to access menus, but nothing could be done on the game screen.
2) Game locked up accessing the animation for Norman to open his car door and leave. Required hard reset. Upon returning to the intermediate save at the top of the crime scene hill, when I came down, the police chief was nowhere to be found, I was able to leave the crime scene without talking to him

I'm actually not so upset about the freezing as about the save game corruption since the game does NOT allow you to backup your save game data. This is a DESCISION by the developer to limit your ability to safegaurd your effort. It's also annoying as hell for those of us with multiple PS3s.
Dragon Age, Singstar, Fat Princess - all great games that take insane amounts of time and effort and refuse you the simple courtesy of letting you backup your save game files!

It doesn't seem so. You also can't backup your save file - which is a slap in the face to all fans. This is completely a developer decision: not being able to backup your save game means you'll almost definately lose it in case of a system failure and for those us with multiple PS3's or - dare I say it - friends with PS3s we completely lose any ability to migrate to a different machine.
Completely infuriating.

The game freezed once on me, but at least the save game data didn't corrupt. I guess I'm lucky.

Yep. Mine died! 5 or 6 hours in. The save game won't load. I finally decided to start from the previous chapter, deleting all the precious goddamn choices I'd made that shape my experience or whatever, and that won't bloody work either. Double bastard!
