Maybe it is so tough BECAUSE you completed the game twice. Still in new game+ mode? If the end parts of borderlands pre-DLC were meant to be completed at max level in new game+, maybe the same goes for the DLC.

Yeah, it was a little hard in the beginning, but once new wep's start dropping, and you gain some lvl's, it gets a lot easier (but no less time consuming)!

Did you play this on Playthrough 1 or 2 (or 2.5?). I tried it out yesterday on Playthrough 2 with my level 50 Berserker and it was pretty tough. Want to try it out with a group though.

After playing it for a few more hours my thoughts are this: Either start the game with a character who has just beat the original game, and play it on Playthrough 1. Otherwise wait until you have a level 50 and go into this on Playthrough 2. Even then it's still tough. I don't know how many vehicles I lost once I got out on the highway south of town.

Yeah... These writers are so all over the place when it comes to reviewing a game's difficulty, I don't really trust Joystiq too much when it comes to that. Complained that Left 4 Dead 2 was no good because it was too hard, but praised Demon's Souls because it was so hard.

I can say personally I did this with a 42 mordacai and it wasn't that bad. Willing to bet the writer of this article is on play through 2. Enemies are around level 35!

This was my experience as well, though I died twice and pulled up some Netflix.
It was those lightning attacks that really blew through my shields.

I think I'll load up the approach and level up a few before making another solo go.

I am level 51 now and it is a pain in the ass but once you find a weapon that works, it should be a breeze. It's not a breeze now but I appreciate the challenge. Best damn job of downloadable content to date.

I have been enjoying it a lot more once my buddy downloaded it too. I think the problem is that in the beginning you are at level 50 while the enemies are 51/52. In my experience, even with only 1 level difference, the enemy can be incredibly tough. Once I leveled up and I was fighting enemies of the same level, it got to be a lot more fun.

A word of advice, use corrosive weapons against the Lancers. It helps tremendously.

Maybe I've just been insanely lucky with loot, or insanely smart with my class specs, but I've been breezing through the DLC so far with my lvl.50 Hunter. I picked up a Pestilent Defiler revolver at lvl.38 and it STILL one-shots most standard enemies!

The Hunter is by far the easiest character to play with, due to his ability to ignore enemy shields. Even on Playthrough 3 I could do pretty well with my Level 50 Siren, but my buddy with a Level 50 Hunter just annihilated people. That character perk kind of breaks the game. It's the reason so many Level 50 Hunters offered to take people to Eridian Promontory to power-level them.

It was tough at first. But once you gain some levels it gets easier. But still challenging, which is good. Just completed Circle of Duty quest. Only Crawmerax left. Dunno what to expect, except to die lol

Borderlands was one of my favorites 2009 games, having both DLCs (Moxxi and Zombies) i have to say that the game was so much easy that it was frustrating!

I wanted a challenging experience, and all i got was one of the most easy games i`ve ever played this gen.

So, after hearing Moxxi was hard i promptly bought it up for the challenge, and i`ll buy this solely because it is freaking hard, and FINALLY (i hope) a challenge as Moxxi kinda were.

I agree. This is rough. Really hard. I got stuck right away on those assassin chicks where it was a never ending cycle of dying and there was NOTHING I could do but back out. I went and leveled up a couple times and went back and was finally able to beat them. But seriously, I think I've died more on this DLC then I have in my entire time playing the game. Everything I go up against is pretty much three-four levels higher than me. It's pretty rough. I've managed to get pretty far into it, just met up with Athena back in T-Bone... but I have been pretty disappointed by the weapons I've been pulling. They may say they are level 33-40 but they are still crap that does like 70-100 damage. I have a level 19 machine gun and 22 shotgun I am still using because they are my best guns and I just hit level 40 (had already maxed out a 50, first play through, new character). I also encountered a spot near the prison (underneath with all the midgets) where I kept falling through a bridge. I still love the game more than any other game I've ever owned for the 360 by a lot, but these last two DLC's have been a big huge miss and then in this case a total mixed bag...

thanks, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't using cuss words.

Now I'll attempt to find the offending word *sigh*

paragraph 1of 2
When I first fought in T-Bone, I was surprised at the enemy's toughness. It was a single Lance drone. I thought it was because I was just rusty after months of not touching Borderlands. Well, I went back to Fyrestone and was wiping the enemies once again (this is playthrough 2.5, so there were lvl 51 enemies).

I've got a Lvl 50 Soldier. I had 1.5 milion to start, and once I got the hang of what weapons kill who, I was good. Against Pyros you don't use fire, against the chemical soldiers you don't use caustic, against the Shock troopers you don't electrical. The Devastators you kill from as far away as possible, seriously, they take FOREVER to kill, run away and shoot them in the "head". ;) I love it, and the added play time is great. Its fun having an extended story and since it was only 800 points, who cares? Its freakin' huge! The most possibly annoying thing I've faced are those obnoxious and seemingly endless flying drones. They get really irritating when you're facing a bunch of troops and vehicles at once. I guess I just got too impatient and stormed in too fast?

The ninja type characters you face: jump around a lot, shoot, throw proximity grenades so they run on them, use a mix of caustic and incediary as much as possible. Keep jumping.

SPOILER*** (Kind of)
The first major single boss you face, I thought he was invincible: Shank. You just have to jump around a lot, but once you get his REALLY tough shields down, his health dwindles quickly. He took me 5 tries with the soldier at level 51 with a level 48 Incendiary x4 rifle and caustic turret.

WHY ARE PEOPLE SAYING ITS SO HARD?! I'm a lvl 50 siren, 1st play through, no mods, and the only time I died was when I crashed the vehicle into a mine.l I think it's pretty easy actually. Basically if you liked the game and want more to play you should definately download this.

Request me if you want to play some time. GT: Arex Ree

Because most people are probably progressing onto this from a Second playthrough character. This will doubtlessly make it much harder, though not as hard as if it was a Third playthrough, which I bet would be either impossible or just really annoying.

The problem is when you play on anything but the first playthrough. When I first got Zombie Island, I went in on playthrough 2, it took forever to kill one zombie. IIRC, I was level 40 at the time and all the enemies were level 46 or so.. untouchable.

Finally realized I should try going back in on playthrough 1 and everything was much easier. Personally, I thought they were either trying to force people to go in with friends or just didn't thoroughly test on anything but playthrough 2.

On another note, I liked Zombie Island, but was very disappointed with Mad Moxxi's Underdome. The arena gameplay didn't feel very original but more importantly, I thought the player checkpoint/respawn logic was cheap. You have to go through 5 rounds of 5 waves each (or vice versa, can't remember). But, when I died in round 4, they set me back to round 3, wave 1 and that was the last time I played it.

I'm doing this with a friend on Second Playthrough, and I can attest to its difficulty. I don't know about First Playthrough, maybe it's easier there. But Second Playthrough has definitely been hell for us.

Nevertheless, it's a beefy DLC, and everything that makes Borderlands great is there, especially the humor. Highly recommended.

ok to start off i was a level 50 sniper on my second play through as soon as i got the dlc i went back to the last level of the regular missions and grinded my guy to a level 52 then stopped getting good xp so went back to the dlc. for the most part it was easy only thing that was hard is figuring out what guns kill which guys but once thats figured out it was easy to mass kill everything or just run really really fast. i still havent kill that invincible guy waiting to get the rest of my friends up to 61s so we can give it a try. i have had 50s for every type of player and i have to say the sniper is the best you can use and honestly in my opinion the siren and berserker are shit they dont really help the team much either, i use a +18 team health regeneration with my sniper and my friend uses a soldier with a +17 team ammo regenetion and we survive alot longer that way.

i really liked zombie island dlc so was a bit disappointed with mad moxxi and i havent beat it yet i think mad moxxi is worse than grinding and you dont even get xp from it but i really really like knoxx put like 9 hours into it already and gunna start a second playthrough tomorrow with friends should be fun

and yes i jump everytime those damn midgets pop out of the chests

So far I'm really digging this DLC, but it's soo hard. I've also died more in this DLC than I did in the entire retail game. My level 50 siren on the 2nd playthrough is getting murdered. My SMG with 4x fire doesn't even bother these guys.

All I can say is GOOD! Everything in the game is a pushover, now. And, Zombie Island and the Underdome each had nothing new or challenging. So, I need something tough to put down.

Then again, for all I know, these Joystiq guys went into this with only good equipment and not uber... although he DID say he had the "perfect Siren" build... lol

I don't mean to sound better than everyone, but I had very little trouble with any of it. I beat the game in about 3 hours. I also play as a Siren. I don't know why she doesnt get the love she deserves...best character out there. I use a Merc. class mod with +23 smg ammo regeneration. 1 hellfire smg (50 proficiancy with smg), 1 pestilent defiler x4 corrosive (50 proficiency there too), and 1 pistol with ammo regen for my defiler. My build is pretty scattered but emphasis on fire rate (for smg) and hitting power. Never really had any problems. I didnt have time put in to fight crawermax, however the 5 minutes i played him, he does seem invinsible, but i will fix that later today :). msg me on xbl if you need help, or weapons...xraysthru.

PS, mod users need not apply.

I agree with the author's experience. I started as a level 50 Siren/Phoenix. The enemies are pretty tough. But the Ninjas are pretty easy with my level 48 Corrosive Shotgun. The lance probes can be taken out with a high damage sniper (650 or higher). Just find some cover, and get critical shots, they go down quick.

It's the tech soldiers/and chemical lances that give me the toughest time.

I'm not sure what others are doing "wrong", as it were, but Knoxx hasn't been difficult at all. I went into Playthrough 2.5 with my level 50 Sniper and I had no trouble at all...

I have my skill points set such that I'm a total force as a sniper and so that my Bloodwing is maxed out; I have a class mod that couples with my skill points to really make my guy unstoppable. I haven't hit an enemy or mini-boss in Knoxx yet that was any harder than anyone in the regular game...

I've always thought the Siren & Berserker were the weakest overall characters though, especially because their Special power is so limited. The Bloodwing is BY FAR the best Special and the soldier's Turret is definitely a reasonably close 2nd...

The entire game, including this DLC, is level scaled. It's hard BECAUSE you are high level. They anticipate that a player who has been committed enough to gain all those levels probably wants an actual challenge.

If you just want to play the content, go in with a fresh character at a moderate level.

I soloed this with my hunter the day after it came out on PC and I died legitimately maybe 5 times total (most of those just trying to figure out the easiest way to kill drifters). Sounds like this reviewer was used to running around without cover spraying everything with win daze on his siren. I went in at lvl 50 and yes a few of the BA's were challenging at first but you get used to it and take cover and before you know it you are higher level than everything else and can walk all over everything.

In short, L2P nub. Oh and do sidequests if you don't want to farm skags. This guy should stay away from shooters.
