Split/Second releases May 18; renamed 'Split/Second: Velocity' in Europe

While Nintendo threw a release date party in San Francisco today, Disney Interactive rev-ealed the scheduled arrival of Split/Second on May 18 to Joystiq in an email today. "The Split/Second release date is May 18 in the US and the name in the US is still Split/Second ... Split/Second: Velocity is only for Europe and will be released on May 21," the publisher clarified.

Now Gamer recently reported the UK release date exclusively alongside the reveal of a new moniker in the EU. Along with a more specific release date (previously known as "May 2010"), Disney sent along some new box art (as seen above). Unfortunately, we were told no new details are yet available on a demo for the upcoming Michael Bay-esque racer.

The success of this game depends entirely on how predictable and exploitable the stunt and track changing events are. If every race turns out to be "rush to the part of the track where the train derails and then there is no way anyone can catch up" sort of situations, this will be no fun to play more than once.

I can't wait for this game! I have been drooling over it for some time now.

I noticed the image in this post changed to the other logo, then back again.

It was only for a split second though.

Those graphics don't exactly thrill me. I expected more in that department, but if it plays well, then it doesn't really matter I guess.

I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to a game made by Disney.

This studio's other game (Pure) was pretty good. I had a decent amount of fun with it. Also, Epic Mickey will be great I hope!

Oh and don't get me started on the Duck Tails game!

Split/Second is a badass name; it means what it says.

Split/Second: Velocity is just plain dumb. Why must you do this, Black Rock? Or should I say, Black Rock's dumb marketing department?

Then I'll be importing the one with the better name. Seriously, did they really think we would be wondering why the in game city is named "Velo"?

This new title just makes it sound like a comedian having to ask if we got his terrible pun because no one laughed... No we got it. It's just not worthy of more than a "oh, I like what you did there", nor did we need it explaining.

Yeah and I've seen plenty of puns, my friends and I make them every split second.... GET IT?!?!

There are some games of split second velocity which include an extra car does somebody know what car ? is it worth to buy the one comming with a extra car it it a nice car ?
