Super Mario Galaxy 2 flies into retail space May 23

Those of you eagerly awaiting more exploration of tiny, gimmick-filled planetoids don't have long to wait. At its Media Summit event today, Nintendo announced the May 23 release date of Super Mario Galaxy 2 in North America.

Last night, news from Nintendo of Australia suggested that Galaxy 2 would see a summer release, and we're delighted that the wait for a more specific date -- one that applied to America, as well -- wasn't long at all. Speaking of delight, we'll now get to see just how high Mario can jump when he ditches Yoshi mid-air ... in space!

What are some of the new things they have added to this one?

Yoshi and new levels, pretty much. But I mean, if that's not enough for you, you probably didn't like the first one.

I liked the first game a lot. It was fun but the only thing I didn't like was the swimming. I just wanted to know some of the new features.

There may very well be a tonne of new features, Nintendo's just been mum on the game as per usual. Like Acosta said, Yoshi is the most evident.

I'm really hoping you can press a button to skip story segments this time around, that's the only thing I didn't like about the original.

Yoshi was only useful in Super Mario World (SNES). He was pretty damn awesome with the different abilities based on the color of the Yoshi.

This better be implemented in a similar fashion here otherwise I could care less about riding something that gives Mario sexual gratification at night.

After my first play through, I made it a point to NEVER walk into that library.

Sweet! 2 days after my birthday! That means...22 years of playing Mario (if the rumblings of me picking up the NES remote and finishing World 1-1 as a newborn are true...)!!!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta finish Galaxy...
