Who would want to play a game about Japan that has Japanese stuff in it? As long as I can go to McDonalds and experience everything that I'm bored of in my everyday life in my games about Japan then Im happy.

Sega is racking up good moves like gangbusters.

Is this the same hostess club that (on the demo) the guy at the door says "you have to wait until the full game" to enjoy? If it is, alot of people (pervs) might buy this game looking forward to that. False advertising. I mean, it's not like without those two things, the game feels any more American...imo.

Persona 3 had several Japanese history quizzes that weren't taken out, Sega is just terrible lately with the poor PS3 Bayonetta port, taking Valkyria Chronicles 2 to the PSP and now this.

Yeah the removal of content, just made this game a rental for me as well (that's if I can even find it at the video store). The game came out in 2008, they had two years to get the NA/UK release together, and they use the time to remove stuff from the game, instead of adding or making it better for those of us who had to wait two years for it, where they do that at? It's a shame too, because I had gone back and picked up the first in the series and planned on playing them all, now I'll just put that on the backburner. SEGA is one of the few companies in gaming, who I think, secretly strive to lose money and eventually go bankrupt. I could care less if the Yakuza 4 comes out, especially when you have to wait two years for a game to be localized (is this the 80's?)

I'm really not bothered by this in the slightest. Hated them in the first two games, I thought they were even more tedious than the dating system in GTA IV, made even worse by the amount of time you'd have to spend grinding for cash in order to complete them.

It's clearly been a very cheap translation, but I'm shocked to see so many people 'boycotting' the game over this. It's not going to punish Sega, it's clear they were already very hesitant to release the game in English, and if this sells badly it simply elminates any chance we have of ever seeing Kenzan or the sequel.

On the other hand if it DOES sell well, then they wouldn't need to make any cuts due to budget/time constraints for the future games.

Why would you even want them to localize Kenzan at this point? After what they did to Yakuza 3, they would probably take out all the kimonos and yukatas in the game and replace them with cowboy hats and chaps on account of us westerners.

Let me clarify my statement, I'm not boycotting because of the removal of the bars, I'm boycotting because of the time it took to bring the game here, and when it finally does arrive they feel the need to remove things, but strangely along with the post there was no mention of a price reduction. Furthermore, why is a game that's been available for a year being sold at full price? If they really wanted to move units they would have sold this for $40 and included all of the DLC that was released in Japan on the dics and not through some preorder scheme they've cooked up with Gamestop (I know everyone is doing it these days)

I re-watched a preview video on another website and I think I'm still going to support the game. It REALLY sucks that they decided the fans didn't want it. I mean, honestly, who do they think they're releasing this for? The mainstream? Oh yeah, I forgot about that HUGE marketing push they put behind it on TV and in magazines. Sega needs to get their heads out their rears and understand that it is the hardcore audience who argued to get this game over here in the first place and that the hardcore would probably like to have 100% of their game localized. Still, PLEASE support the game because, as many people have said, if we do then they will be more inclined to bring Yakuza 4 over next time and just maybe it will be the complete game.

still buying the game though, just not until the price drops now. Got enough rap between god of war III and FFXIII coming. I was more looking towards supporting these ports, but they have to make a dumb move like this. I would prefer a delay on the release rather than the removal of content.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I completely understand taking out the quiz game. They were trying to localize it on the cheap anyways, and translating a quiz game that 90% of the players wouldn't be able to play very well seems like a good way to do it. And I haven't bothered with the hostess clubs at all in the first games, because it was so bloody "meh" in the first game.(still playing the second game, haven't gone into a non-required club yet though)

On the other hand, anytime I learn that a part of the game has been cut, I feel very ripped off and abused.

Still, "boycotting" the game will NOT help. It'll just make Sega go "We were originally right. This was a waste of time." And I really wouldn't consider cutting these two items as destroying the game or any such nonsense. I will still buy it sometime in the first month of it's release.

Too bad I'll be on the 2nd or 3rd page of comments so only the weirdos will be reading this. I guess me taking the time to type it up for non-first page comments also makes me a weirdo. Woo

Wow, so a Japanese game about Yakuza is deemed to be too Japanese. Host club is part of the culture, just like mafia and night bars. But hey, this is America, so SEGA is doing the right thing. I mean God forbid that US gamers being exposed to something foreign. I'm guessing the next step would be to take out the Japanese audio, since well, it's too Japanese, and US gamers know that Yakuzas only speak English.
I blame this on SCEA. They're the one forcing an English dub in the first place.

Um what dub did Sony force? The only one that was dubbed was the first one. Did you even play the demo of 3? Japanese voices with subtitles in 2 and 3 as well. Honestly even though most of the voice acting was sub-par I got to the second one and found myself missing the voices like a commenter said on another site. I think it should be an option. That way everyone quits whining. But I understand localization with no sales cuts out profit. So it would only make perfect sense to censor content that would alienate the core audience am I right? Still there is no excuse for removing content out of a translation due to pure laziness. Who knew translating a text heavy game to a wider audience would involve so much work. Sega stays winning

I've canceled my pre-order now that I've heard this. I really have no idea WTF Sega was thinking by alienating the fans that simply wanted a full port of the game. The host/hostess clubs were fun, interesting, (not to mention exp-giving) diversions in Yakuza 2. How else am I ever going to experience a Champagne Call SEGA? ;( You don't see Capcom pulling out GTA4 content for the Japanese release of that game calling it too Americanized!

I saw a 2D Sonic. I saw a highly acclaimed Japanese game being ported to America.

I really thought Sega was trying to get back into the 90's kick ass track.

Thank you Sega. Moves like this keep me in check. Expecting you to do something more relevant than just cutting content than, I don't know, reworking the aspects of the game. Change the history challenge to American history? Change the hostess club to a night club? The game was out in March of last year in Japan. With this much time, you could have improved on it in a number of ways. Now, we get Like a Dragon (the original title resonates better with me) in the same month as the million seller series FF. Is ANYONE awake at Sega?!?

I'm really disappointed that the content was cut, but if you're a fan of the series there is no point in not supporting this release. Non-supporting franchises like this is why these games sometimes do not get localized. If developers have the confidence to localize these games, they can invest the proper time and money in a creating a complete North American/European release. It has taken years to get this game in North America showing that developers are hesitant to even release such games in these parts. Buy the game and let Sega know that North Americans expect a true experience for the game.

Did people bitch this much when Atlus cut out stuff from Devil Summoner 1?

Either way, anyone complaining about something this minor is a moron (and a damn weeaboo, most likely). The host clubs are wastes of time and in-game money; I realized this in the first game and didn't deal with them very much in the second. I will not miss them in the third.

They cut 5 trophies from this version. That means more mini-games, more game content is gone.

The only people buying this game really are the ones who bought Yakuza 1 and 2. And that game had hostesses, so their "resonating with western gamers" defense doesn't really fly here.

Beyond that, you people defending this decision are worse than those complaining. It's optional game content that is cut. You just CAN'T justify that.

Yeah, those of us that could not read the Japanese have been looking forward to this version.

Since they cut 5 trophies out that means more content is missing like mahjong, shogi. Good job too supporting a developer that doesn't give a crap about it's fanbase.

@GENTLEMEN

That's what Sega says, but how logical does their explanation really sound? It is not like they needed to do VO, just subtitles; it took some work to take the minigames out just as it would take some work to add some subtitles and English text for menus. On top of that they expressly stated that one of the reasons for taking it out was because westerners would not get it. Why would a little thing like translating some minigames cause an ultimatum where either they had to cut the content out, or can Yakuza 3 for the US altogether? It really just does not add up.

Seeing as how Sega has already shown that they do not understand their consumer base (VOs for Yakuza 1. Seriously how dumb is it for Japanese gangsters to be speaking English?) I would venture to guess that this is just another example that it is not us westerners that do not "get it", but Sega that does not "get it".

It's a neat little diversion and it was that along with all the other minigames in the game that made me even more excited, but after hearing this...I'm just....Disappointed. Im not sure what the content is that they are removing. I can say this, after playing the demo I had no intention of ever playing again because the side missions were stupid and a little gay. I felt more hetero playing Hanna Montana, but at least I can simplify my excuse for playing THAT game ... it had easy trophies.
I am ALL about Japanese culture, I LOVE their history and I am a big fan of a lot of the games that suit that culture, but the Karaoke mini game in Yakuza 3 just sucked.
Get rid of THAT and anything equally bad and I'll consider playing this title again. Otherwise, leave all the content in and give it to the fanboys.
