Jennifer Hale (of female Mass Effect fame) is credited as voicing Samus in the Prime trilogy, I wonder if she's doing the same for Other M, I'm a huge fan of her work regardless so getting her in would be a coup.

Yeah, I really hope they have her voicing Samus, she's a really talented actress and what little work she did for the Prime games and Brawl sounded very promising. I doubt there would be any logical reason for Nintendo NOT to hire her, but I can't rest easy until I know for sure.

Not just Mass Effect; she also did voices in Quest for Glory, Metal Gear Solid, and Eternal Darkness.

And yes, her voice work is great.

Considering how many in-between games Nintendo is releasing for Metroid I wonder if they know what to do to continue the Metroid storyline.

My guess is that since this is being directly overseen by Yoshio Sakamoto - whereas the Prime games were only very loosely overseen by him - it'll probably just ignore the existence of the Prime trilogy altogether, with at best maybe a couple of small continuity nods. I'm largely okay with that. I loved Metroid Prime (1 & 3), but the games had a different tone and style from the other Metroid games - not in a bad way, but it was just a different interpretation and expansion of the same mythos. I wouldn't complain if there were two separate Metroid continuities, one for each developer.

A few things worry me about this:
Not being able to move in FP/missle mode - strange
Art direction: are those supposed to be Zoomers? They look too cartoony.
Samus needs permission to use bombs? From a trooper? Umm..no.

The camera does seem intelligent, which is cool. I'm withholding judgment on the voice acting, but she better sound like a bad-ass.

The immobile first-person view sounds a lot like the last-gen Metal Gear Solid games. It worked fine for them, so I'm not really complaining, but it does seem a bit clunky in this day and age. I'm more worried about controlling 3D sections with the remote. A D-pad does not make for good 3D play - presumably Nintendo realized this many years ago when they decided to make the control stick significantly more accessible than the D-pad for the GameCube controller. And without any sort of lock-on mechanism these segments could run the risk of standing out like sore thumbs against the rest of the gameplay. In other respects, this game honestly sounds like more of a successor to Metroid Fusion than Super Metroid - the emphasis on story and the fact that you have to receive "authorization" from a higher authority sound similar. I wonder to what degree it will focus, on exploration, though? I doubt it'll be as much as Super Metroid, considering the more story-driven nature; but I hope it's more than Metroid Fusion, where your opportunities for exploration beyond the zone you were put in at any given time were fairly limited. Also, the "focus" mechanic sounds like it would've been better off in Ninja Gaiden, and seems out of place with the Metroid mythos. Samus's energy shielding is physically damaged, that's why she needs energy units to recharge it. If she could just use zen magic to fix everything, she would've been doing that from the beginning.
Lastly, I hope Team Ninja gets a chance to put some of their creative monster designs into the game. Metroid has a history of imaginative monster designs, and Team Ninja has a history of imaginatively designing monsters, so it should be a good match.
And, Jennifer Hale as Samus, please.

This makes me wonder what Retro Studio is working on now. They had such a good style going with the Metroid Prime games, maybe they are developing the new Zelda, Zelda Prime? Or probably some new IP.

I doubt they're developing the new Zelda, since Miyamoto and Aonuma have already talked about how they're developing it at EAD. I really hope it's a new IP, because Nintendo could really use some of that right about now. Given their single, vague hint, however, I wonder if that's the case.

I've recently come across some major complaints over the voice acting in the demo that have me concerned. Can you clarify, Randy Nelson?

"The cinematic narrated entirely by Samus (as promised, Other M is the first time we hear her voice -- and it's, well, just all right)..."
First time? I don't think so.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Choose Zero Suit Samus. Start the battle. Press any of the taunt buttons. What do you hear?
"Try me."
"You’re mine. :3"
"Is that all?"
"Be still."

That's right :D

How DO you start a battle with Zero Suit Samus? I've never been able to figure that out.

gatotsu911, it depends on what controller you're using to play. So, if you're using the GC or Classic Controller, hold the L button before choosing Samus. If you're using the Wii remote (NES style), then hold the minus (-) button. :)
