A quick look at their adverts show who it's for, old people who don't like squinting at a tiny screen.

And a quick look at it's sales figures in japan show that there's a lot of them.

I'm young and don't like squinting. I also like nice screens.

Done.

The DS is an amazing platform. The number of SNES era style RPGs is stunning.

I have a lite, but may upgrade. The big issue was screen size increasing without upping the res. According to the article it sounds like that isn't as big of an issue as people thought?

I'm down. I like the screens, and I have no DSi,

But I'm going to wait out for more color options. I'm not impressed with this dark tone Nintendo opted for the US market.

And I'm so tired of the "Can't fit in your pocket" complaint. I can't fit a PSP-2000 in my pocket either. Should I throw it out? It's "handheld" not a "pocketheld". If you want pocket sized systems, go back to the GBA and Neo Geo Pocket (look, even says it in the name).

I'll probably buy a DSi-XL, I currently own a DSlite and have been pretty well holding out on buying any more versions because of the fact that my black DSlite is actually my 4th DS line purchase.

If by the time I actually get waste-able money enough to buy a DSi XL a new DS comes out - I'll skip DSi completely.

I don't know...it's growing on me. I get hand cramps from my Lite. And it's not like it's possible to play GBA games on it-that's why I kept my SP and Micro.

I'll probably get one after a significant price cut.

Well, I will get the XL on day one, for two reasons: First, I didn't upgrade my DS since I got the original DS (or the Phat, as it's called here) and it's just no fun playing on it when comparing it to my PSP. The screens are two small and dark. And that ties into my second reason: My eyesight. I already have a somewhat impaired pair of eyes and don't want to degrade them further by squinting a miniscule text on badly lit screens. So I'm a happy camper. The XL is preordered and paid for, I can't wait to stock up on those DS games I missed so far, like the last Castlevania, FF III and Scribblenauts, just to name three...

So transferring DSiWare through SD card is impossible?

Yeah- maybe they'll have a "if you mail in your DSi and DS XL, we'll transfer them for you", but that hasn't been announced or anything. Very Lame- even the PSP Go has an account for you to redownload from.

Like BFBeast666, I might get the XL because of two things:

First, my Lite it's starting to look bad: my touch screen has a big circle on the middle where I use the stylus more often, The system itself has cracks everywhere (but it isn't broken)

Second: I can't use the pad smoothly anymore!!! I need to press it really hard on the left to make the left side work, and that really bugs me when playing TWEWY or Sonic.

After all, my SP still works perfectly, so I don't care if it doesn't have GBA support :)

"but unlike the iPad, the DSi XL promises no added functionality, nor does it alter the electronics landscape in any way. It is, quite succinctly, a bigger DSi."

Excellent, so unlike the ipad they didn't remove features from it's smaller pre-cursor.

I don't know what kind of pants everyone is wearing that original DSes and PSPs don't fit in their pockets -- I'm 5'4 and I wear fitting jeans, and I can get them both in fine w/o any of the system sticking out, geez.

I only carry my portable gaming devices in messenger bags and the like anyhow, but it would've been nice if this option was available instead of having it be announced/come out like, 5 months after the DSi- I can't transfer my DSiWare (no access to SD card isn't understandable- you can't play games from memory sticks on PSP unless you have custom firmware; and, no Nintendo Network account for you to redownload games you purchased- sorry, purchased the license to play). This has supposedly has better battery life than the DSi, much nicer/bigger screens...

I waited a couple months, got a good deal through ebay, and I still get to miss out on a product that I would've preferred. Sad Panda.

I'm looking forward to getting one when I have the money. I bought a DS Lite for the brighter screen (and the LoZ paint job), but the thing is so little that my hands cramp up while playing it. Plus, while it may be too large to fit in a pocket, it's not too large to fit in a backpack or messenger bag, so it's no less portable for me.

I think the DSi XL will appeal to those people who are older (with poorer eyesight), people who don't take it out the house as much, and finally people who find the DSi and DS Lite to be to small. I know my hands cramp up trying to hold my DS Lite. I also don't have any use for the GBA slot on my DS Lite since I have a GBA SP that still works. I'm also not a big fan of the Guitar Hero games on the DS either.

I'm really excited about the new DSi XL! I am still playing my Phat (and hope it never dies because of the GBA games). I never wanted to get the DS Lite or the DSi because they're so small. I love the idea of having bigger screens. I read somewhere that there would not be any change in the resolution even with the bigger screens (although that seemed like a funny thing to do), and now I've read that there IS a difference in the resolution. I suppose I will have to wait to find out. Anyway, like some others here, I play my DS primarily at home, and can't wait to have the giant version (just as soon as I can save up a bit of cash, that is). Other people are excited as well. Here's another article I read recently about it: http://hubpages.com/hub/Nintendo-DSi-XL-Handheld-Console-Perfection
