Namco Bandai has taken a very tentative first step toward providing a solution to the puzzle of what Pac-Man Battle Royaleis. In a teaser video, the company revealed an arcade game with multiple Pac-Mans (Pac-Men?). A faint image behind the "Sneak Peek at Amusement Expo 2010" caption suggests a multiplayer game with up to four players sharing a big maze. A reinvented arcade game would be the perfect way to mark the 30th anniversary of the original.
We'll have to wait, then, until the expo (March 10-12) to see more; but, in the meantime, we can watch the teaser over and over again and dream of the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii-ization of Pac-Man and dream of a mythical world where we'll get to play an arcade game. Join us in this reverie after the break.
Yes, and I loved it! The only problem was that it came out in the age of wired controllers, so everything got tangled up handing off the Game Boy around the room.
It's actually not that farfetched given the whole hallway structure. Just make the whole thing 3D, make the yellow pellets some sort of ammo and the blue pellets an item pickup, collect fruit for health. A survival kind of game.
I have an old DOS game called 3Demon which is, in essence, first-person (but not shooter) Pac-Man. There was an overhead map you could call up, but the primary visuals were the hallways. Getting eaten by a ghost was rather a traumatic experience at that age, as the screen just showed a massive pair of jaws closing (implying you were already in the mouth!).
"upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii-ization of Pac-Man"
I couldn't help but think of how great a Wii Ware remake of the Mario Bros arcade game could be. One with new features, boards, enemies. Perhaps some sort of character selection and of course, generous amounts of Nintendo nostalgia. Ninstalgia?
