Not sure about this, but after the disappointing 3D titles and the two Rush games I'm willing to give this a chance. At least they're trying it seems. And since the leaked footage is nothing final, there's still hope, the gameplay will be sped up until the release.

These "fans" need to take off their nostalgia goggles already. The team that made the old Sonic games on the Genesis is not the same team working on this one. I don't think I've ever heard a Mario fan cry foul over his face being used on a project made by a different development team.

It doesn't surprise me it's taken this long for them to attempt something geared specifically towards the old-school Sonic fans when said demographic is often portrayed as a collective of whiny furry man-children. Go play the Sonic Advance / Sonic Rush games if you're hankerin' for a decent side-scrolling speedfest with a largely ignorable / non-existent story.

Yes, I too find it ironic. Sonic 4 looks most like Sonic 1 atm. It doesn't seem to offer anything new or different. If anything, it should be a wet dream for those idiots. Sonic is also rather benign as a game. Interesting, good in its day, but of all the old games I played, considering its popularity, it holds up the worst.

I also agree with the Sonic/Sega fandom culture. It's incredibly odd.

I agree again that Shenmue is much about nothing. I played the first, it was cute if not misguided. I imported the 2nd one, bought a VGA adapter to actually play it and then I also bought it for Xbox. I can safely say that the series was ok for what it was, but in the grand scheme of things it's way more popular than any logical sense should dictate and I have no idea why I bought it three times in retrospect. Maybe it's one of those games that makes people think it connects them closer to Japan, mistakenly.

See this is why Sonic gets so much hate. Its not the crappy games that come out year after year after year. Its the fact that the majority of his fan base are so freakin' annoying... and the fact that his games have sucked lately.

I think it's ridiculous that this is going on. First off, the "petitioners" aren't real Sonic fans. They are the whiny hardcore Genesis fans that want a game exactly like the Genesis Sonic games. They should grow up and realize that if they wanted a Mega Man 9 type remake with new content and identical graphics to the original game, they are not getting it here. Secondly, I think Sonic needs to be treated with more respect. Mario still gets respect despite a fair share of crappy games (Mario is Missing, Mario CDi games, Mario Party, etc.), so I don't see why Sonic should be treated so badly. Thirdly, cry me a river Joystiq. You constantly bash and badmouth Sonic, and try to pass as a gaming news site. Look, what is your vendetta against Sonic? Just because the later games haven't appealed to you doesn't mean you have any right to bash Sonic. There are plenty of people who liked Sonic Heroes and Sonic Unleashed. Where's that "we hate Sonic" news post? I'm tired of all of the hate, and simply put, there shouldn't be any hate, because Sonic is one of the most famous gaming mascots out there along with Mario. There's a reason why he is still popular, and NO, it isn't because his "games are crappy". Sonic '06 was a mistake, but do you have to constantly ram it down our throat that that game sucked? We get it already, it sucked! Enough using it as a scapegoat to say that the entire Sonic series sucks. In fact, the only "sucky" games are Sonic '06 and Shadow the Hedgehog. The Wii games don't count since they are spin-off titles.

Here's the real problem though. The entire Sonic community (and this gaming site) are stuck in a world of too much expectations. They think that the current Sonic Team can create another killer app as in Sonic Adventure with every Sonic game that is produced. Although the games are fun and stuff, the fans feel disappointed because it isn't "perfect". This perfectionist attitude is what is ruining the community. How about shut up for a second, actually sit down and play the Sonic games you hate (Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed), and actually give them a chance. Seriously, I had fun with Sonic Heroes and Unleashed. If this site weren't so blindly attached to Nintendo and Mario, maybe there wouldn't be a post like this.

My opinion is that the leaked footage on Sonic Retro was beta footage. It's not a finished version of the game. But yet, this site couldn't wait to jump on the bandwagon of Sonic hate and post about some people being annoyed that the game is like Sonic Advance/Sonic Rush. Umm, what? Sonic Rush was one of the best reviewed Sonic games of the past 5 years. If Sonic 4 plays like that that's actually a GOOD THING! Sonic Rush was a great evolution of the classic 2D gameplay, and I believe it'll work great in Sonic 4.

I don't understand. The game looks great. Gameplay looks exactly like the originals, and the environment looks good. I really think SEGA is doing something great with this. As for you idiots who are "boycotting" the game, you're retarded, and clearly not real Sonic fans.
