Star Wars The Old Republic dev diary: Returning to Taris
28
The sixth developer diary for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been released and it features a new (yet familiar) location players will be able to visit when the MMO finally goes live. Devastated by the sinister Sith Lord Darth Malak in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the post-apocalyptic world of Taris will be a "major world" in the upcoming Bioware MMO. While the original vision for the ruined planet was to be a giant swamp-like crater, Bioware smartly decided to shape the environment as a vertical wasteland that both the Republic and Imperial factions are attempting to reshape.

This makes me wonder if they would bring back Telos from Kotor2, atleast I think thats what i was called, remember they were trying to rebuild the ecosystem on it.
With WoW:Cataclysm, GW2 and this coming out this year and next year it will be tough deciding which to play

Anyone remember making fun of that old janitor who was vacuuming the apartments you start out in?

Does anybody know how gameplay for TOR might compare to the gameplay of KOTOR? Do you think this game will hold any interest for anyone who has no interest in MMO's? I freaking loved kotor, but really don't want to commit myself to an mmo. If there is a central storyline beyond the mass-multiplayer aspect i might try to pick it up.

From what the devs are talking about, it feels more like a 4-8 single player stories with co-op options when leveling, and then end-game like all other MMOs.
They are talking taking choices, and these choices reflecting in the world around you. There is also co-horts, love intrests and loyalty quests.

You'll have companions like in KotOR too. I believe for now you can only have one companion out at once, and there are spells to swap them out. BioWare has said your choice of companion in combat could change your fighting style.
Like for example, if you'd rather be a Damage Dealer in the melee, you could use a companion more designed to heal you. Or if you want to stay at range and cast/shoot at your enemies, you could use a companion who stays in the melee and forces your foes to attack him instead of you. Careful use of companions will help eliminate the need to group for many situations.

One of the only MMO games to suck me in is MAG and it's only a pseudo MMO and some say not an MMO at all ... this game, final fantasy 14 and dc universe online are all looking freaking amazing and have me rethinking my interest in MMOs.

MAG is online multiplayer only. Its not massively multiplayer.
As, for this game, it would be cool if the world actually progressed to being rebuilt as players play it - if Republic is stronger, and get destroyed more if Empire is stronger. If the worlds is just pretty background, then its the same as all other MMOs - boring.

MMO means that you are in a large world with a population cap in the hundreds and that the game is not divided into rooms and lobbies with a limited number of members.
MAG is a large multiplayer shooter, but you'll still get kicked back to the main menu when the round is over. MMOs have persistent worlds.

Can someone recommend a laptop ( less than $1000, preferably $500-600) that should be able to play this game? After seeing more videos, this game is changing my mind.

Well, it won't be out untill next year (a year from now infact), so if you wait it out, anything you buy at the 500$ range will run it.
As there are no system specs out now, no one knows for sure what it requires, but I think they are aiming for low system specs rather then high, to get the most amount of people.

looks interesting. I'm actually not really a big fan of Star Wars (ive seen the movies...but I'm not into the lore that much), but I have to say, this MMO looks pretty damn sick.
If there's one company that has a remote chance against Blizzard, it's Bioware

As a rule I don't play MMORPGs. I'll make an exception for this. Dammit I can't decide which class to play!
