I don't think it has anything to do with daylight savings, I believe its just an issue that needs to be resolved. It could be the new updated us.playstation.com site since it now allows us to log in with our PSN ID's *just a thought* regardless if you think Sony is going to allow this to go on for much longer your mistaken, they want us to play and be happy with the service. I just hope whatever update they do is worth it and they can at least explain what happened.

Odd, I'm playing MAG right now and don't have any issues.

But don't tell the other people in my squad I'm posting on here and reading news when I should be covering them.

How could a PSN issue corrupt data on offline systems? This makes no sense. Also, once PSN is up and running again, corrupted data would remain so, would it not?

THIS. I need an answer for. I mean, okay it's down. That's not an issue, but what the hell is going on that it is screwing up offline information.... Corrupted files, lost trophies, what the hell are they doing? How on earth did my PS3 have it's theme corrupted when I turned it on and I didn't even LOG IN.

the problems started around 00:00 UTC when switching from 28/02 to 29/02 (February is a weird month LOL) , clocks were reset, so I think is a bug with the time storage on the phat PS3 models (people report no problems with the slims). i think date problems could cause corrupted data if the code to check authenticity uses the broken date

He's actually right. PSN is down even for offline games!

I played Braid this morning, and every time I got a puzzle piece it gave me a weird error message, but I still got a trophy. No biggie ... whatever, turned it off and went to work. Hadn't been on all day. Just went to go online after reading all this stuff and sure enough all my dynamic themes say "corrupted data" and I can't play ANY games even if they are offline! I even tried disconnecting my internet before I powered my PS3 on and it didn't make a difference. My date was also changed to 12/31/1999 ... I'm also on an original 60 GB Fat PS3.

This is inexcusable Sony. Something needs to be done right away. If the PSN is down thats one thing but not being able to play ANY GAMES OFFLINE is completely and utterly ridiculous. EPIC FAIL.

The PSN is not down. The issue is hardware related. The hardware does not recognize the leap year date (2/29 instead of the correct 3/1). So everything goes bonkers. If you own a slim PS3 I hear you can still play online. PS3 (phat) owners will have to wait till 6pm 3/1 and wait to see if the hardware will reset itself. This is actually a common bug, but my guess is never on this scale.

Well that's great for you. I guess you're one of the lucky ones. I have learned since however that it was not due to PSN being down, per se, but because of the system time problem. Once I manually reset the date and time, Netflix worked fine. It would NOT work before that. So if you didn't have any problems, good. But I bet I wasn't the only one.

Sucks PSN is down, but just noticed something disturbing. I cant access the Borderland DLC when offline. The DLC I paid for and downloaded to my PS3. WTF? I don't understand why I cant access my DLC content if PSN is down. What the heck happens to all my DLC when the PS4 comes out (yes that is far into the future but its something to think about)??

It happens a lot on the 360 if you've ever switched consoles until you reengage the licenses for that console. Not sure about the PS3's solution.

Same here mate, don't worry. Something's gone on Sony's end that has messed up processes that require any sort of sync or check with the server (which includes preloading of trophies, I assume there is some sort of check involved there).

The weirdest thing I find is how it says the DLC is not installed. Specifically to me it said "You have saved the game in a location of DLC that isn't installed on this system. Blah blah blah, you will start in Fyrestone". I still have lvl61, all weapons, but no missions in any DLC and no access to it. Hopefully I get that back fine, I have filled the 42 slots of the bank in the Underdome :/

Another crazy thing I've heard about this is that it's affected PS3's that haven't been connected to the internet at all for a long time - seems like it's a firmware issue since a while back that is linked to the date - coincidentally this is the time of year that there's a possible extra day due to the leap year... I know it's just speculation and it's not a leap year, but how long has the PS3 been released, coming up to 4 years? Odd that a leap year comes every 4 years too...

The trophies that synched the last time should still remain in tact. If you hadn't synched its possible they will be gone for good. No one can say for sure because we don't know what the problem is all about!

@Oz

You synch trophies by viewing your PSN profile or comparing profiles with a friend. You do this so the trophy information is stored online in case your HDD craps out. It doesn't auto synch in the background so you have to manually do so by the methods I mentioned above.

Wait, you mean my trophies are only saved locally unless I try to compare them, but it still takes a long-ass time to pull up the list every time I go to it? Yet the Xbox saves achievements online all the time and pulling them up is seamless? That is unbelievable.

Your trophies synchronize with the servers every time you see that progress bar with percentage. If you're in-game, you have to view your profile or compare trophies, but if you're not in-game, even pulling up the list at all will likely sync for you. It only takes long if you haven't done it in a while.

DO NOT sync your trophies until they get this straighten out.

The trophies should be fine, but there may be an issue if you try syncing them now.

If you're logged onto PSN and go to view your trophies (or view your profile or compare with friends), they will sync. You will see the sync progress bar.

If you're not logged into PSN or you don't go to view your trophies while online, they will not sync.

I'm not too happy with how Sony has handled this. I'm a PS3 loyalist rockin' the 60GB model. When I got the error code, I called my friend who had a slimmer PS3 and asked if he could log on. He said he could and other people in our MW2 clan could as well. Fearing the worst, I looked up the error code on PS support forums and they said it was either a disc problem or a system problem. And if it's a system problem, the site said it needed to be shipped in! I've already done this once and was just barely under warranty when I did. Shipping it now would cost $150 bucks now. I try customer support and get immediately turned down. I finally did some more digging on the InterTubes and found this and several other sites describing the problem. Phew. But it still ticks me off that Sony scheduled maintenance on a SUNDAY AFTERNOON and left me with an error code that gave me no clue what the eff was going on. A more succinct message like, "We're undergoing scheduled maintenance. Sorry, bitches" would have at least put my mind at ease.

Glad the PS3 is not broke. Sony's communications department, on the other hand....

If nothing else this raises many questions about the PS3 itself. How come people can't access offline content, including DLC and physical games?

That's a little disconcerting.
