Epic president hints at new game announcement at E3

Epic Games president Mike Capps is already teasing some kind of new announcement at E3. Speaking to VentureBeat at the Interactive Achievement Awards, Capps responded to a question about possible new games by saying that "We might have a new one coming. I think E3 is going to be really exciting for fans of Epic." You can see him make this statement on video after the break.

It might have a new one coming? Shouldn't he know? What kind of company doesn't keep its own president in the loop? Oh, we get it. He's being coy. So what's this new game? It could be the "Shooter from Epic TBA" listed in EA's schedule for early 2011. Which could be People Can Fly's "Bulletstorm." We suppose "fans of Epic" would be happiest with a sequel to one of the company's franchises, so a new Unreal, Gears of War or even Shadow Complex is always a possibility. It's probably not a new Jill of the Jungle. Which is too bad.

I have not played Gears 2 in forever. I feel like playing but that is the type of game to play with bro's. And the only person i know that likes gears does not have live atm. Sucks....

I suppose GoW3 would be welcome, but dare I say I'd like to see a new IP.

UT3 was solid, but stale. The gameplay really hasn't changed much, and I don't see that changing in a new installment. UT3 was a lot like Quake 4, more of the same with better graphics. Gears of War was fresh and new, and there's still a lot to be expanded and improved upon. There are far too many first person shooters on the market and in development. The UT games were loads of fun but I don't think we really need another one.

A new Jazz Jackrabbit game? I can dream, can't I? : (

Shadow Complex 2?

These two things would make me a very, very happy gamer.

Gears of War 3 will be released this November.

gears of war 3 will not be out this year. there is another game on the 360 called halo reach; you might've heard of it, regardless, it is the defining microsoft IP for 2010. gears of war 3 is fall 2011 (at the earliest).

Screw that.. I want both this year.. I want Gears & Mass Effect done by the time I'm 30.. at that age, I might be reduced to Peggle!

Hell will freeze over first. Microsoft just started pushing GFWL as their own digital distribution channel. They're not about to give up some of their best exclusives to the competition. On top of that, Gears 2 will likely never see a PC release. MS considered the first game a financial failure on PC, and they want to keep as many people on the 360 as possible. It's sad, but it's true.

I'd hope for GOW2 to still come to PC, since its been a while since it came out for the 360. I'll still take the reheated leftovers please oh evil MS who wants to kill PC gaming and force us all to your console!

He may be a more 'badass' character, but both Kratos and Marcus are as interesting as a burlap sack full of manure. They're both entirely devoid of actual character, with badassery only helped along by them screaming everything they say (Kratos) or speaking exclusively in gruff whisper-yells (Marcus).

Hopefully 'BulletStorm' is a little deeper than the Painkiller games, AKA I was not a fan.

Killzone 3 vs. Gears of War 3 would make for an epic Q4 '10!

Killzone has a lot of backing in Europe, plus, in all honesty, it's prettier than Gears 2 (talking about KZ2 obviously). That'd be a tough race. Both companies would be over 40 million consoles by then, too.

Big fan of epic. Looking forward to their next release.

My bet is on a reboot of the Unreal franchise. That's their baby, and they could show off some UE3 improvements and extend the life of the engine, then get to work on UE4 for the new consoles.

But Epic only provided the engine for Shadow Complex. The game was developed by "Chair Entertainment" and published by Microsoft.

Yes, but Epic owns Chair.

They already said they're taking a break from Unreal for a while, so this is either Gears 3 or Shadow Complex 2. My guess is the former since this holiday it'll be 2 years since we saw Gears 2, the same time between it and Gears 1. Not to mention Shadow Complex only came out last summer.

Microsoft first party is really trying for a perfect storm here. Last year we only had ODST and Forza 3. The year before was solid with Gears 2, Fable II, and Ninja Gaiden II over the summer. Though 2007, with the release of Halo 3, Mass Effect, PGR4, and Forza 2 that summer was much stronger than either year.

Honestly though, I still think Sony could crush em if what we've been hearing is true. Last holiday was much stronger then Microsoft (Uncharted, GOW Collection, Ratchet), and this holiday could be huge with Resistance 3, Twisted Metal, Starhawk and LBP 3. Shit, we might even see Motorstorm 3 or Uncharted 3 for that matter.

Either way, I think for both 360 and PS3 owners (I'm both), this is going to be a much better holiday season then 2008 or 2009 was.

Uncharted 3 isn't likely, but Killzone 3 is.

Don't forget THE market crusher, GT5.
