Heavy Rain buoyed to top of UK sales charts

Consumers in the UK poured out the pounds for PS3's Heavy Rain last week, according to Chart-Track's all-formats chart. The adventure game took the hill from Aliens vs. Predator, which slipped down one spot. Meanwhile, Just Dance kept doing its cha-cha of endurance and took third.

Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus got a second wind (or a big shipment to the region) and overtook Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 after moving up five spots and into fourth. Finally, Napoleon: Total War marched in at #12 while White Knight Chronicles began its quest at #35.

Wow, when was the last time an adventure [in the "graphic adventure" sense] game took the #1 spot on a console? Has that EVER happened?

Again, I meant in the "graphic adventure" sense, ala Lucasarts or Sierra adventures (which this is definitely emerging from) - less so the action/adventure sense (Zelda, Arkham Asylum, etc.)

not that i know of, im guessing alot of people didn't know 100% what they were buying, even if it is a good game.

This is pretty unexpected; they must have been advertising EVERYWHERE. I'm very happy for both Heavy Rain and Quantic Dream.

Yeah there's been a lot of TV advertising, a really good series about all the decision making and the different outcomes of each choice. Its good to see such a great title do so well especially compared to just dance and wii fit.

Heavy Rain is absolutely awesome, but it is still surprising that it sold so well, as there wasn't much advertising, at least where I live... and it's not really a game that would peak interest of mass market gamers. Weird but great news nonetheless.

Now, if we could actually PLAY the game... *cough*apocalyPS3*cough*

Except we cant play it because our ps3s are broken!

I wouldn't say its broken. PS3's might start working about 6pm tonight. If I have to skip Bad Company 2 or even GOW3 well. . . . oh man, I don't want to even think about that.

Except it corrupted my harddrive, hopefully a format will fix it.

Awesome, I hope it sells well. I can't afford to get it right now and my blockbuster only has one copy which is always out of course (damn people want to play the good game I want to play). I wish Australia had gamefly.

Makes sense since its so awesome, just wish it would stop freezing on me.

I drove to a Best Buy 20 miles out of the way yesterday to pick it up because the local stores were sold out. I put it in the PS3 to try it and first had to wait 20 minutes for it to download an update. Then I got the lovely PSN errors.

Yea lol, I've always been able to pick up a PS3 game at launch day or couple of days after launch at Best Buy but Heavy Rain it's been out of stock since launch day lol.....boy I made a mistake for not pre-ordering it.

I'm not surprised that the UK sales are that high, since I guess that half of Europe is buying the game there.

The game costs about 50% more if you buy it somewhere else in Europe (due to the GBP/EUR exchange rate).
Amazon UK price: 33.79 GBP = about 50 USD
Amazon DE/AT price: 57.91 EUR = about 78 USD

I almost always order my games in UK (although I'm living in Austria).
The only "disadvantage" is that Sony stopped to put other languages than English onto the discs sold in UK (it used to be the case that all discs sold in Europe contain all supported languages, this is not the case anymore for UK).
Usually I don't mind having an English version, but in case of Heavy Rain I decided to get the version sold in Austria. Heavy Rain could be one of the few games where the voice acting for other languages is better than the one of the English version ;) (at least judging from what I read)

Lol you can choose the language on the UK version so you failed a bit.

That's interesting, all forum posts I've read till now stated that the UK version is English only.

Nah I definitely had the option to choose what language I wanted when I first put the game in.

Because some dude on here spoiled the game for me I will unfortunately be supporting this game by buying it as it's not worth it now. Although I will play once I exchange my Uncharted 2 for it with a friend.

It's called sarcasm. No one has spoiled the ending for you and even if they did, so what? The ending wouldn't make sense without a context...

I'm happy to see Heavy Rain succeed. I hope we see more "products" like it.
