Amid the roar of Call of Duty news today, Activision has confirmed that Treyarch's next entry in the series will be released this fall. Assuming Activision adheres to its thus far rock-solid Call of Duty schedule, a November release seems likely. Whether or not the series will make the rumored move to Vietnam remains unconfirmed.
In other unsurprising Call of Duty news, Activision has confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 DLC will consist of multiplayer map packs. The map packs were more or less outed last year, thanks to some loose-lipped energy drink packaging, but Activision hasn't actually confirmed the exact nature of the DLC until now. The first two map packs -- slated to appear first on Xbox Live -- are in development at Infinity Ward. Assuming initial plans haven't been altered by the executive shuffling, the first pack is scheduled to release this spring, while the second is slated for a (presumably later) 2010 release.

After looking at world at war, I'm guessing it'll just be a vietnam skin on MW2... except they'll add all the wrong things to make it less fun.

Hopefully this game will incorporate lots of moral choices. For example, the beginning could have you dodging the draft and moving to Canada. After that it would turn into a moose hunting sim.

I love all the armchair developers out there who have this blind loyalty to Infinity Ward. Like they'd even know the damn difference if the only name on every Call of Duty package was "activision."
I actually enjoyed WaW more than MW2. SOmetimes it's best *not* to throw everything--including the kitchen sink--at a game.

Battlefield : Vietnam was my favorite of the Battlefield bunch. If they can capture the character that game had I think it would be a good move.

Activision: Cutting back on Guitar Hero to bring you more Call of Duty.
And hey, by the time people lose interest in CoD they'll have a new IP with which to make yearly games.

And here we have a prime example of how not to announce a game.
It's the equivalent of this: http://failblog.org/2010/01/05/paternity-fail/

3-4 maps in a bundle for $10.
Still ridiculous price for what you're getting.
Thousands of people will still buy them.

I've tried time and time again to explain to my friends this situation we have with Activision, and yet, they still claim that COD: MW2 is the best game of all time. My gosh...

I haven't bought anything from Activision in a long time, and as long as Bob is employed there I will continue to not buy their games - no matter what genre game it is.
This only wipes out 3 platforms for me though- Wii, DS and PSP...so there weren't really tons of titles coming for me from them anyway. Guitar Hero went down to shits pretty quickly after the boom of 3, so by the time 4 came around it was already overcooked IMO thanks in large part to that awful Aerosmith game that came before WT - that leaves CoD for me. I really enjoyed W@W on the Wii too, still do. Treyarch did a great job on the controls.
This means I have to wait to give EB Games the money for a used copy of CoD:MW reflux.

You journalists need to start asking sneaky questions to trick them into telling us about the next Call of Duty. For example:
Richard Mitchell: So, just to flesh out my notes here, who did you hire to do the voice acting for LBJ?
Treyarch Exec: Brian Cox, actually. At first he didn't want to but then. . . oh, son of a bitch! Kotick's gonna have my other ball for this!

Unless you're playing the lag-filled coop, Boredomlands IS boring. The singleplayer is a joke, with pitiful missions and gopher gameplay that has you driving across 5 entire maps just to get to one spot, then return, all the while fighting with the world's worst mapping system.
Don't even get me started about the weapons. After you collect about 3 good ones, all the other guns are crap, and remixed crap. Enemies get tougher as you level up but the guns you find are junk. I played through half of the single player with a volcano sniper rifle, a caustic shotgun and whatever pistol was laying around.

Urgh, they'd clearly try to do what they've done to Guitar Hero with call of Duty if it wasn't for the fact that more design has to be put into a FPS. It's like EA and Activision has swapped places with each other in the shit/awesome war of the third party publishers. Think we have ol' Bobby to thank partly for that.
I only hope the devs for call of duty can keep the shovelware factors to a minimum.

The only good thing to come of this whole ordeal is that if COD 7 is set in Vietnam and is a success, then there may be some interest in an era of history that video games have traditionally shunned.
Everything else sucks.
