I'd like to see the engine used in more games, I'm a bit tired of Unreal Engine 3.

It would be cool if PC gamers can create levels in Crysis 2 and export them to the consoles or even vice versa. I can't wait to try out the Sandbox level editor again!

It would be awesome but I doubt they would be able to. Sony and Microsoft make too much money off of DLC, if players could make their own maps it would defeat the purpose of paying ridiculous amounts for in game content.

And THAT is the beauty of LBP.

Wow Jerry, just Wow. You're joking right? Ignorant maybe? The Cryengine 2 is built scaleable enough to play games on 360/Ps3, so therefore any remotely half-decent PC will max it out, just like mine does now to Crysis 1 with a graphics card worth $US120

Anyone sufficiently experienced with level editors knows that Forge isn't one.

I'm thinking at least the PS3 version of Crysis 2 will have some mod support since Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 did, it let you use the mods created from the PC version of the game, pretty cool!

Just because a handfull of games look like Gears/Unreal doesn't mean its the engine causing that. Borderlands and Mirror's Edge are good examples of games that dont share the typical Unreal Engine 3 look. Also you have to remember that its much easier to work with the same tools especially when some devs have their own packages integrated into the engine.

Yeah, Mirror's Edge was a nice breath of fresh air for the engine.

Fkin UE3 has been a CURSE this generation for all formats... and that's from a former EPIC fanboy of sorts (going back to the original unreal). ALL UE3 games on PC have been underwhelming, have slack controls, bad widescreen, crap aliasing etc...

So yeah enough with the (very dated and console friendly only) UE3 now and more use of the sublime Cryengine (2/3). I've spent many hours on the PC in CE2 sandbox and just messing around in there with lighting and physics is vastly more entertaining than most of the UE3 games put together. It is so solid and functional, really awe inspiring. Hope the consoles can pull it off properly though (PS3 owner here of course) - though for Crysis 2 you bet I'll be buying it for PC + whatever new GPU is out then + possibly i9 CPU = happy days :)

Um, didn't Avatar: The Game have 3D options on both PS3 and 360?

I thought that only the software and the viewing unit (aka TV) needed to be capable of 3D..

I think it's that it is supported by Sony on the PS3, and tools are made available to do it, while on the 360 it's completelly up to the dev. As long as you can set the 360 to output in 120Hz it's really not difficult to impliment (it may be difficult to get a game looking good and running smoothly, but that's not what I mean)

i guess what i meant to say was i hope it never fully replaces 2D. as long as the games i want to buy have an option for 2D as well as 3D i will be a happy camper

...but, most games these days are 3D squashed into 2D. Won't this just allow the optional elimination of the math to squash to 2D?

...that doesn't make any sense. I get what you're saying, that systems take 3D data and display it on a 2D surface, but whether you're doing 2D or 3D you still need the power to 1: process the 3D in real-time, and at the same time 2: convert it to a format that is interpretable to human eyes (pixels, holograms, whatever).

Wonder how it will work on pc, cry engine2 was good and now cry engine3 will be gr8 with 3d experience, so how it will handle with nvidia 3d tech afterall nvidia works on the technology to make the games 3d that already existed.
Or in cry engine3 will be there will be some tweaked double camera setup to lay down the proper colors for 3d depth view with enable 3d or disable 3d like view with 1 main camera or the two usable camera for 3d view

There are 3D displays that dont require the glasses. Sure they are still a few years away, but by then we will know if 3D has caught on or not.

lol.. if in-home 3-D sticks, I'm sure there will be some form of prescription 3-D glasses.
Seriously, I'm gonna laugh my ass off when I see Sony strike a deal with lenscrafters.

Could go with that whole "smart glasses" thing coming in the near future...

For the 3D ludites - be quiet, most of you haven't even tried '3D' in gaming and assume it's just rubbish based on Jaws 3 3D from the early 80s (i.e bad reviews and hearsay).

The fact is even 5+ years ago 3D on PC *COULD* sometimes be quite amazing, even using much earlier tech, much less impressive engines/games and much less understanding of how it can tangiably immerse you in the envrionment.

I've had a few different shutter glasses over the years (mainly when I was on CRT monitors) and while sometimes clunky, sometimes needing config tweaks etc.. when it worked it was pretty damned impressive (for the simple games it worked well with - i.e Quake 3).

It is progress to go 'full 3D' eventually, all that was holding it back was the proper tech and the processing power. It will obviously go more mainstream over the coming years with all the big names involved, finally it will be 'sorted out' and the nay-sayers can ignore if they like, go back to the Atari, or better still, board games if tech advances scare you.

Only BAD 3D is something to be feared, these guys are now trying to do GOOD 3D and believe me, in an engine like CRYENGINE if it's done right it will be jaw dropping.

don't see the point especially if you already own an hdtv
