Look at the bid history. One user pushed it up from $1,700 to $7,000 in seven bids in just over a minute. Later, the same user pushed it up from $510,000 to $800,200 in seven bids in a half hour.

This is definitely a fake auction.

Well, it IS sealed. That means that, technically, it's a bid for a NEW game. Not a used, not an opened one, but a fresh one.

I think the big debate on whether or not the seal is genuine. It seems that the NES collecting community thinks it's a reseal, so they're pushing the bidding to a point that no one spends their money on something that's not legit.

I fear for my SNES Chrono Trigger and Original Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy isn't that rare(especially now with the iPhone release), and Chrono dropped after the DS rerelease.

The price dropped for people wanting to play the games. Not so much for the collector.

Do you think that if somebody really pays 800k for Stadium Events that it will EVER be opened? No way. There are opened copies going for less than 10k if you wanted to play it.

Lol the iPhone version is not original...nor can you get it factory sealed. The point is not to have and play the game...those two are probably worth quite a bit factory sealed.

Phil if you really wanted to play stadium events you could just go buy a used NES cart and clone a copy of it onto the used cart, and save yourself a lot of money.

@ 3dpenguin

That was my point. If you were gonna play the thing there are MANY cheaper ways to do it. Ways that wouldn't ruin an 800K investment.

You're right about that.

As a collector I saw the 41K and thought, yeah... I can kinda see that. There's something about having a new something that draws that type of person to pay more than they should.

I just don't see 800k as being anywhere near the point of reason. I'd hope for that guy that it's legit. But I doubt it.

Well even your supposedly sealed Chrono Trigger and FF3 sealed will never be worth that much.

Unless of course through a shocking turn of events it turns out that Nintendo bought the rights to Chrano Triggo and changed the name to Chrono Trigger, and somehow you have a sealed copy of Chrano Triggo.

Same for FF3 but imagine I mispelled the first mention of it and Nintendo bought the rights and you have a sealed copy of this mispelled or even completely different first mention of the game.

If that's the case i'd like some pics pl0x.

Ummm.... Okaaaaay...

First off I didn't say that I had a sealed copy of FF3. I have a sealed copy of the ORIGINAL FF for the NES.

Second, I never said that I thought that they would ever be worth that much. If they had ever been worth THAT much they would have been sold already. I understand what makes Stadium Events worth so much to a collector. Sadly none of my sealed games have that one important defining feature of being truly rare.

"There are opened copies going for less than 10k if you wanted to play it."

If you just want to play it, the better option is to get World Class Track Meet for less than 10$, since it's literally the same game with a different title.
No need to actually get Stadium Events itself unless you're a collector, since the same game can be found for much cheaper.

A ROM is never worth as much as the game. Otherwise, it wouldn't cost two to three hundred dollars to get a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Remember that very very few copies of this game were made, as it was only released in a test market in the US initially, and was pulled off in favor of Track and Field or something

known existing copies of the game, period, number into the double digits. Those two sealed copies plus one more in the hands of some kinda mega-collector are probably the only three sealed copies of this game on earth.

800k is still ludicrous, but not beyond all realms of understanding.

Actually 800k goes into the realm of false bidding when it comes to ebay, I'm actually surprised that 40k hasn't turned out to be from false bids, the game isn't worth all that much in the way of play value, and if you're a collector with that much money to spend there are much more reliable ways of get hold of the game. I suspect there may be more sealed copies than articles would lead us to believe, its just that they've been sitting around collecting dust for years now, because nobody even felt like opening them, remember the game was useless without the pad, and the only pad released in mass quantities came with this exact game under a different name.

800k Nintendo games do seem beyond all realms of understanding for this NES game considering one sold just sold for $40K. Has that one been confirmed that it was paid for? Ebay auctions get bid up all the time on high profile auctions and never get paid for. It would be really cool if that seller got his 40k but I won't believe it until I hear it from that seller what he actually got paid. Also how can you believe that the shrinkwrap is original. Ebay is full of fake things and when you start talking big bucks it would be easy to buy a $10,000 complete game and shrinkwrap it. I buy my games from an NES online store called www.DKOldies.com and just like to play for fun. This investing in original NES shrinkwraping sounds insane.

Well, it's hard to say how many copies are out there. Bandai never released data on how many copies were returned under the recall, if I remember correctly.

@Dr. Blight

Recalls are kind of a shady area, because like you pointed out about Bandai, most companies won't say exactly how many of an item are returned, this is the reason why many recalled items in the realm of toys and games often become very collectible. The Maniac Mansion I pointed out above had about 250k in the first print run, they all sold, but LucasFilms Games did recall them. How many were returned? Knowing the fans of the game probably none, but there was a recall placed on it to prevent Nintendo from suing the manufacture for in appropriate and unapproved material in the game.

It is possibly the original box and may even contain the original game, but I believe the shrink wrap is fake. The one that sold in February has a different style of hook where it would of hunk on the peg. If 200 copies were sold from 1 store then surely they would all have identical hooks.

The hook in this one looks similar to the ones I use to use in a DIY store a couple of years ago.
