God of War clone again?

Actually i would not complain 1 bit if they did, i'd be more compelled to buy it. Im one of the few that was HAPPY to see Dantes Inferno play just like God of War.

hey i too loved dante's inferno, espicially the art style..
animated movie is also nice one
i won't say its GOW clone it fells in the same genre.
There are some previous styled games as GOW as a mixture for all nice things taken from..
i am also from one of those GOW fans, played GOW1 and 2 and in psp also

I havent played Dantes Inferno, but i heard it was so similar to God of War even the combos were identical. Same game, new coat of paint. Either way, love the idea and i'll buy it!

Why would you automatically think God of War clone? so any game where you kill something with a melee weapon in third person is an automatically a god of war clone? If anything I would assume that this would be much more like Alice than like God of War considering the source behind it. Let's wait until we see something reall about the game before makeing those kind of assumptions. Honestly I don't get the trend that new gamers seem to have that forces them to attach any new game to a previous game and call it a clone before ever having actually played the game. Sure Dante's Inferno is pretty much a god of war clone. But people were saying that long before we even saw gameplay.

This game will probably be great regardless of what the gameplay style is. I mean, with Alice - the gameplay was damned average at best. It was the beautiful artstyle and masterful storytelling (not to mention remaining faithful to the spirit of the source material) that made it a memorable game.

Though I don't think anything will top The Path as my favorite videogame version of Little Red Riding Hood. It's barely even a game in the strictest sense of the word, but as an experience...it's unrivaled.

Since when did "clone" become synonymous with "in the same genre."

Oh yeah... since internet fanboys and trolls found themselves unable to come up with real criticisms of unreleased games about which all we have seen is some art assets and general game concept.

What reason would he have to bring that game up? Sure it's based off of the Red Riding Hood tale but there is very little reason to mention it here..

Because the developers of The Path kind of look up to McGee...a lot. Plus it's not like there's a huge number of Red based games out there. Since when has mentioning two games based on similar concepts together been unreasonable?

Or the more "edgy" and simple title..... "Red"..... does he mean the hood...? The blood...? The eyes of the wolf? No one knows! But the box art would have all three on it!!

Why is American McGee "legendary"? The only game I can think of him being associated with after Alice (which came out probably 15 years ago) is Bad Day L.A., a game that you would describe as "a total piece of shit with no reedeeming qualities" if you were being kind.

American was probably first known for making maps for Doom and Doom2.

From there, he made Alice which was really great.

Then he made a bunch of crap.

I liken him to the Todd McFarlane of gaming.

I think he's a legend because of Alice, or just because he has unique takes on fairy tales. Or because people think his name seems legendary.

He's also done "Grimm" and apparently has sold a trilogy to Disney based on the "Oz" books (but instead of Dorothy, these are based on Arthur, who I think shows up later in the 13 original Oz books written by L. Frank Baum).

And yes, I used Wikipedia. I'm not really this well-informed.

I hope the "legendary" part is a joke for the fact that every game he works on has to have "American McGee presents" in the title. Wow, dark takes on fairy tales...what a genius.

I think the so called "legend" originate before then, when he worked on Doom, Doom II, Quake, and Quake II in level design (and other areas). That is where he gained enough recognition to actually be able to make Alice.

They really need to do that Alice sequel, or remake it with super trippy effects. Oz would have been awesome as well. The freedom to bend the game world's "reality" (like in Psychonauts!) because of a fantasy setting is really to his advantage.

Whoa, you're way off on that date. Alice came out a little over 9 years ago. Quake 1 wasn't even around 15 years ago.

I get what you're saying, though. I wouldn't call him "legendary" just because one of the games he directed was good.

why none call the games by genre, by what they actually are. To me GoW is a Third Person Hack & Slash with RPG elements.
Saying that GoW is getting ripped by other games from the same genre it makes no sense.
Is like saying that theres only one real football team all the rest are second hand plagiarists.

Soooo..... you know how like some video games should not be made into movies. Maybe some fairy tales shouldn't be made into video games. Though we totally need a Humpty Dumpty Sky diving sim.

I feel like McGee has more ideas floating around than he knows what to do with, and not all of that is a compliment. Anyone remember American McGee's Oz? and what happening with the Alice sequel?

This would make a great game, but I'm not on board that it will actually happen.

I'm sorry, but making games and movies out of old proverbs and fairy tales is wearing a bit thin for me. These "hardcore" remakes of fairy tales and such just don't attract my fancy. Most of the stories originated from the Brothers Grimm, and maybe playing on that without the XTREME factor would interest me, but having Little Red Riding Hood hack up wolves with a damned axe? The whole idea is pretentious. If it's another character in the tale, maybe I could see that. It would still be a stretch.

"Little Red has never looked quite so badass"? What about Zombie BBQ?

I'm laughing at all the "legendary designer" comments. With Joystiq, you have to wonder how much of that is tongue-in-cheek. Not that Scrapland wasn't just totally EPIC.

This better rise above and beyond the recent standard this guy has set for himself with the abysmal Bad Day LA and lackluster Grimm series. The concept art, and the idea for the game itself, deserves to be translated into a good game.
