Following the SomethingAwful thread for this is exciting. The steam forum is pretty much stealing all of our work though :(.

I don't get this mentality of "They are stealing our stuff" when its not a specific forum that's going to solve this and the work hasn't been coming from one source alone its the whole community, people should be sharing their ideas and progress to help everyone get even further down the rabbit hole.

Work? What world do you exist in where overzealous losers "decoding" info about a possible game sequel is considered work? And you feel slighted by another group?

You sir have regained your virginity assuming you'd paid to lose it and possibly cast permavrgin on yourself.

I'm a little worried about Portal 2, the creative genius behind the first left Valve (and portal is the only game they've made that I liked at all) so without that creative genius the 2nd may not be nearly as good. Time will tell and I hope it is as good as the first.

They don't do scat for me, I find their stories are meh, their weapons are meh, they just don't interest me.
It's really weak that I state an opinion and get down voted, if I said valve sucks instead of their games don't do anything for me I'd kind of understand a down voting but not for say I don't care their games.

While I disagree with your opinion (valve games are awesome!), I do agree that getting voted down for said opinion seems wrong. It seems like the community discourages stating your opinion if its against the mainstream. Kudos to you for fighting the power!

If its any consolation, I voted you up.

Proceed with the down votes.

I think people sometimes use the up/downvoting with agree/disagree instead of good quality/poor quality, so don't take it too hard.

I am curious what games you do like, though. I'm having a hard time understanding how you can dislike Valve games but still like Portal. By that I mean, I see how you could be into military/tactical shooters like CoD or Tom Clancy and not like the more arcade-ish and Quakish feel of Half life and its spawn, but you like Portal, and even then there's still Counter-Strike.

Basically, I just want to know what games you're playing that make Half-Life seem like "meh", because I sure as hell want to play those games too!

And while we're at it...
"At this point, being a mere sequel tease, or connecting the Portal and Half-Life universes, would be a disappointment."
What the hell are you talking about?

A creative genius, not THE creative genius. The team behind Narbacular Drop all had a creative role in Portal.

I agree. We all know the games take place in the same universe, but there hasn't been any confirmation of a direct crossover between Freeman and Chell.

Though this campaign looks like it might hint at fixing that.

Awesome. I'm glad Valve put this amount of time and effort into an intricate marketing puzzle instead of working on Half Life 3.

Funnily enough I doubt that the marketing team working on a portal advertising campaign is going to affect the release of half life 2 episode 3...

If you follow this at all, it's far more likely that this campaign is pointing TO Half Life episode 3. For example, a static filled sound file was found that, once cleaned up, has Dr. Klenier clearly say "That's amazing!" as well as two voices that kind of sound like Alyx and Barney.

Check the threads, this campaign is insane.

Theres no way this is a marketing team effort, this is done by the developers. How many marketing teams would have the knowledge to do stuff like this? Its way too complicated.

And ya this is all mostly for Episode 3 (or ideally HL3). They wouldnt release Portal 2 before the next HL, its much more likely that it would be another package deal or intertwined with the next HL story.

Not quite. Team Fortress 2 and Portal came out at the exact same time as Episode 2. All three games were new when the Orange Box was released.

So Valve has made Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and a few extra maps for Portal (Still Alive) since they made Episode 2.

Oh, and Left 4 Dead was developed by Turtle Rock Studios and Valve bought them during the development of it.

so, what you're saying is, a stand alone re release where they didnt do anything but it in in a box by itself, took away valuable resources from Episode 3?

You know what else got a stand alone release? Episode 2.

Also, the extra maps for Still Alive were just the Portal: The Flash Version maps, which were made by an independent group of developers and included with their permission.

Getting mad at those games taking away resources is like getting mad at Portal: First Slice (the demo) or the Orange Box version of Peggle.

I'm gonna be very disappointed if it's Portal 2. Don't get me wrong, I loved Portal to bits but it doesn't need another game, I don't think there's anywhere for it to go. I'm fairly confident it's going to be Episode 3 however, and it's going to obviously feature Aperture Science heavily in the plot.

A popular theory is that the BBS system lists "GlaDOS version 3.11" which some are guessing may refer to March 11th, coincidentally the same day Gabe Newell is getting some award at the GDC.
