Don't know morse code? Can't decode SSTV images? Don't worry, this latest Portal update (the second in one week) is a bit easier to understand. The finale of Valve's beloved puzzle game has been extended with about 15 seconds of new content. In it, players will be introduced to a brand new character, likely one to appear in Portal 2.
While you can go through another Portal adventure by accessing the update on Steam, we'd like to provide you an easier solution. You can watch both the original and extended endings after the break.
EGOvoruhk is correct. It's a reference back to what GLaDOS asked you to do once you avoided being baked into a cake -- lying down on the ground with your hands behind your back.
Actually he's in the beginning of the game as you head to the resonance chamber - he lets you through the door once you've got your hazmat suit. If you interface with him he says something like "hit me up later, I'll buy you a beer".
That's why he says in Half-Life 2, "Now about that beer I owe you..." when he takes off the Combine uniform mask.
I was hoping for Portal 2 they would bring back Adrian Shepard from Opposing Force and explain what happened to him. In opposing force at the end it just says he was detained, I was hoping he would have ended up as guinea pig in Portal 2 and be rescued or something like that.
Barney was an original character by Valve. He was in the first Half-Life
Adrian Shepard was not.
Opposing Force was done by Gearbox. I don't think Valve ever plans on following up on them. Especially considering the head of Gearbox has been giving Valve and Steam shit lately.
I dunno if I'd count Barney's hundreds of mentally deficient clones in Half Life as his first appearance.
And Valve did hint at Adrian in Portal with the keyboard Easter Egg. Go look at any keyboard in Portal and write down the keys that are highlighted. You can get Shepard's name that way. I don't think they're done with him.
Those clones weren't Barney. Barney is only seen on the beginning tram ride, out on a platform knocking on a door. He's never seen again in the first game

Why the hell would I be opposed to playing through Portal again? That's one of those games you don't NEED a reason to play through again. Give me one and I'm on it like shit on a stick.
Yes - I understand that. Read within context, sir. Also pay attention that this patch was PC, and this article is flagged PC.
Joystiq says: "While you can go through and play... we give you easier solution." This means "instead of playing it again on Steam (PC ONLY) - Just watch the video" My reply: "That's ludicrous! Why would I ignore another reason to play it again?"
In short - I get the video for 360 users, but you should understand the context here is talking to / about PC users.
If so, why is DOG walking all funny and slow? I doubt this theory, and all others that imply any kind of canonical cross-over between the two franchises. I want it to happen too, but I don't think Valve does.
also no way it's DOG, dog was built up from scrap by alyx and eli over years, why would DOG be programmed with an Aperture science "Party Position" command?
@Colin I didn't say they didn't exist in the same universe (unless that's what I meant by cross-over); I'm saying I'm opposed to Chell and Gordon crossing paths.
I dunno if Chell and Gordon are going to actually meet (I mean, come on, is Chell a very compelling character?) but there will definitely be some more blatant crossovers between the two, judging from the ending of Episode 2 and the stuff we're digging up in the ARG.
