In other words, no DS 2.

I love Nintendo, I really do, but when are they gonna start actually getting serious with their tech? When? This technology is outdated and we need something new and fresh.

Just remember that these statements are in no way whatsoever indicative of future hardware plans, especially when it's not coming from Iwata himself.

A given big three executive will deny new hardware up until the second before corporate authorizes its announcement, and deny it with a straight face.

I don't exactly have another $200 to throw at Nintendo, so everyone needs to stop with this nonsense about a new handheld. The old one's just fine.

Yeah, how can we have good game on outdated technology?

(And then I would typically link to like, Chrono Trigger or like Half Life 2 or something; that way everybody knows that I'm being sarcastic to make a point. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to do that, so here's this footnote instead.)

I'm with Mr Khan on this one in that a statement from a NOA executive really doesn't mean much.
Not to forget that the existance of the DS Lite was directly denied a week before it's official unveiling, and the DSi was directly denied less than 24 hours before its reveal.

DS is fine how it is, but I'd want them announce a new system in order to expand the market, rather then expanding it with giant bigger versions of something I already have.

Why no DSG?

And they're not going to be able to sell 14 year old tech with a six year old facelift much longer.

Because people are going to catch on that it's the same damn hardware inside. And Sony will have PSP2 ready for either this year or next.

You're implying Nintendo doesn't already have tech waiting/being refined. Look stuff up about the DS's history, it was being thought up and as early as the gba launch. If anything nintendo's probably sitting with a wait and see approach, to see what sony does first.

I'll agree with this. Handhelds haven't quite had their awakening outside Japan yet, but i think it is due, though it's questionable as to whether the DS itself can do it.

I honestly think its too late with the advent of iphone and soon android gaming. Are you really gonna carry a separate gaming device everywhere you travel when instead you can have an awesome all in one with cheaper games. I mean look at Chinatown Wars on the iphone.

iPhone has no buttons.

Therefore, gaming on iPhone=fail.

Chinatown wars was never a system seller. For all of iPhone's gaming apps, how many of them are actually going to sell an iPhone?

The dearth of system sellers for iPhone/iPod/Android will guarantee that people will generally not buy them primarily as gaming devices.

Also: the all-in-one has never conquered, despite its apparent utility.

For me, Fox, I'm moving away from all-in-one devices. My problem is that they do too much, and nothing is done particularly well, especially in the iPhone/iPod Touch's case. If that means I carry a DS, netbook, ereader, and music player, so be it.

The biggest reason iPhone gaming isn't going to take off is probably AT&T and the $1200/year required service plan. In terms of the iPod touch, it makes the multiple devices argument moot since you are back to carrying around multiple things.

That said, I predict DS2 to be announced sometime this year. The DS has been out for 5+ years, the GBA was only out for 3.

Why would they do that? They tried that with the Gamecube, and arguably with the N64, and got hammered.

That's pretty much what's happened in Japan.

Also, for everyone having a DS over here in the States, I rarely see people playing them.

I was going to downvote because I know a lot of people who do have a DS...
but it IS strange: I only see people playing their PSP everywhere I go...

It's sad they got their greatest success when they stopped competing with the other game makers. I don't know of any other example in real life when that would happen.

The Hare will always beat the Tortoise if he pushes on never to stop and rest.

Problem with their comparison regarding the markets is that in America gaming is still considered childish by many, its not held as the same level as other media by the general population like it is in Japan.

Also Japanese are whores for consumerism. Most people there probably own all three versions of the DS... They bough rehashed shit like it was made out of gold. No offense but really, look at how well rehashes and remakes do over there... its stupid.
