Its about time Activision got a good kick in the nuts. Don't they own the Bond franchise which they never do ANYTHING with!? Maybe if they lost Modern Warfare rights then they make a good James Bond game? Anyways, I'm rooting for the good guys and hope Activision takes it in the ass for pulling such cheap ass shit on good developers. Itagaki dealt with something along the lines and guess what...he WON and if he can win his suit then I'm sure these guys will win and get the compensation they rightfully deserve.

If Activision had any class, brains or dignity, they'd have made them vice presidents of the company the way Disney did with John Lasseter.

This is mafia-style management.

That also took the Disney name starting to fizzle and the ousting of Eisner to happen. The future looks good for Activision.

I hope Activision falls flat on their face with the COD series without Infinity Ward at the helms.

What franchise do you think will step up to the plate and take over the COD heavyweight title?

As they say, 'The plot thickens'. Yes, Activision not only own's Infinity Ward but they also own the name brand to the Call of Duty franchise as well. Anything IW creates using that franchise Activision has a say, and a cut, to those potential profits. How Activision handled this sort of situation, and how they conduct business as a whole, is unbelievable. It seems that their motto is to make as much money as possible no matter who they screw over, or how many bridges they burn in the process to make money. This type of practice is damaging to the gaming industry.

From the outside looking in Activision doesn't seem like this evil empire that everyone hates. But when you delve into what Bobby Kotick says at various gaming conventions it makes one wonder if they're in the business to make great products for everyone to enjoy, or just to make big money.

Well, when you have a head that openly devalues the human inside the company to a mere cog in the financial wheel of corp greed - what do you think the goal is?

It's to make money. While that is all good and well, and is the whole point of being in business - there is a line. Somewhere it got crossed and greed took over, capitalism turned into gluttony and the workers became fodder to feed the shareholders. It's evident by the extreme milking of the franchises happening, the negative energy emitting from the company and from the comments Bob the Destroyer makes.

It's a result of buying into a moral hazard.

At this rate even if Bob the Douche leaves or is ousted - I really question the ethics of those involved in money making decisions at Activison and wonder if I will ever buy one of their products in new condition again. or ever again.

Of course this could all boil down to IW being elitist assholes combined with Activisions god complex. They (IW) got taken on the IP rights sale when they got in bed with Bob the Sodomizer.

Publishers are only in it to make money, they take a big amount of money add a develper & watch it become a bigger pile of money, they take "some" risks, but their attitude of "it's the IP that sells" is really not that far off the mark.

Developers should team up with other smaller outfits & form co-operatives in my opinion, share resources & pool their investment potential, & stay the hell away from greedy publishing companies.

As far as Kotick is concerned, well, the man's a Shark, he doesn't pretend to be anything different.

I hope the guys get the money they were due, where the IP falls isn't the big issue but the game made Activision a f**kton of money so they fired the men instead of coughing up their dues, might be good business but it's bad practice & I hope they get burned for it & lose the IP to the IW founders.

The dues are nothing, I'm sure. There has to be a larger issue.

Otherwise, I agree with you. Activision wants the IP, because they are a company that doesn't know how create, they just know how to hold onto something and milk it.

The IW founders know how to create and thus really don't need the IP as much as Activision does, they can make a new one.

This split could easily come out very well for the IW founders and for gamers, if they'd just stop fighting, wrap up the ends (like get those bonuses) and start looking forward.

LS2LS7, why are you so sure that those the profit sharing dues must be so small?

You've been very outspoken about the fact that they should just cut their losses and move on. I don't understand why a guy that seems to be as smart as you can't accept that THESE guys are also smart. And what's more, they have the WHOLE story. They know what they were promised. They know what dollar amounts are involved. They have copies of the contracts. They have information the public simply doesn't have.
I can't possibly see how you can know anything.

What makes you so sure these guys are dumb for going after what they believe is rightfully theirs (and likely believe they can prove it)?

I support these developers despite the fact they knowingly dealt with the devil. And it pains me to say that, because Activision used to be the light of the publishing biz. EA should make them an offer immediately, regardless of how their suit plays out. Gamers are a lot more loyal to platforms than to franchises. They'll go where the quality is, regardless of what words are on the box. I am still a huge Total Annihilation fan but Supreme Commander was a letdown in many respects and I never play it any more (the all-or-nothing AI and the blatant lies about it being "modder friendly" were major factors). If I don't hear good things about SupCom II I won't even buy it.

I said it in the earlier post but there are an awful lot of people who believe that Activision will lose simply because they don't like them.

We have no idea what is going on here but what you can be sure of is that, since Activision made the first move, they've already dotted their i's and crossed their t's. What we're seeing from the two ex-heads of Infinity Ward is a reactionary movement.

However, if you think that Activision have taken the profits of this game and have now fired the heads of the development team simply because they've got what they wanted, you need to re-evaluate your understand of the business and legal world.

Also, can we please stop referring to this as Activision v Infinity Ward? It's Activision and Infinity Ward v Jason West and Vince Zampella. Anyone who is saying Activision will fail without Infinity Ward will be well reminded that the staff have yet to declare their allegiance and would be unwise to do so.

This will be alot of fun for the next couple years as it gets sorted out. Will likely do nothing but make Activision look like the worst publisher in the world to work for.

But you never know. They'll defend the COD/MW brand to the death. Its worth BILLIONS.

but what if one is boycotting social networking sites? you take money from Bob the Beast and give it to Facecrook in the form of adverts and stupid apps via clicks..

How about boycotting everyone out for your disposable income? That is a solo journey one takes, and no one else knows - so....no limelight or 'props' for doing it - but you would feel much better personally. If you believe in your cause.

Yes, Nook, but it's that limelight these people need with their super important internet boycotts and petitions. God forbid they do something to hit the company where it hurts - and do so without asking everyone to pat them on the back.

With all due respect, go make a billion dollars for someone else and get kicked in the teeth as your reward. You too might feel like suing after that.

I hope they get their money, it makes sense what Activision did. Pay some lawyers what can be compared to as a small fee to search for some BS and presto fired, probably cost them less to do so than pay all the royalties to them. Just imagine the amount of numbers on that check or direct transfer, makes me salivate.

This is not just about money. You don't potentially ruin a franchise like Call of Duty just because you don't feel like giving two guys a small piece of the profit pie. The shareholders would have Kotick's head on a stick.

I'm sure Kottick would just say that this is just one more way of him running an efficient tight company. I hope West and Zampella win and start their own publishing company and get the call of duty teams on board, basically giving activision NO good games (I'm not partial to the rhythm games or the other garbage they put out). That would REALLY show Kottick who's boss.

Kottick: "uh, uh, wait I'm sorry! You can have your bonuses! Take my wife, ANYTHING!"

Did you ever read about how activision got started? I think it's in one of the newer game informers, but he says basically they were broke and just started selling things they didn't have the rights to. It is only fit that a company that gets it's start by ripping people off, will continue to do so.

This has 'mess' written all over it, but I suspect it'll be settled out of court. Long term it makes me wonder about the COD brand. You also have to wonder if the execs would start a new company.

To those complaining about Activision, we have no idea why Activision fired the execs, so everyone is jumping to conclusions here. Perhaps they did do something egregious. Secondly, I'm sure the execs got plenty of money when they were acquired by Activision. They then ostensibly entered into employment agreements which were negotiated and which gave Activision the ability to fire them in certain situations. If they didn't want to do the deal and be owned by Activision they didn't have to. The execs' attorneys are obviously going to make statements as favorable to their clients as possible.

If they are correct, then I don't know how you could side against them for filing a lawsuit to salvage their rights. Just because someone files a lawsuit for an injury you automatically decide they're wrong? That's a little short sighted.
