Don't know what's taken me so long, but I guess now is as good a time as any to make the switch to RB from GH. I'll still be around for the [good] new GH titles, though.

Don't know why I was downvoted, I didn't say one was better than the other, just that I will be playing one more than the other for a while...

They just announce the Flogging Molly tracks for GH and theypop up on Rock Band two weeks prior...for half the price...delicious! Between 3 Inches of Blood, Steve Vai, Flogging Molly, and Jonathan Coulton they already have my undivided attention.

Yep. Songs on the Rock Band Network weren't made by Harmonix, but by the artists themselves, and most (all?) proceeds go to them.

The artists get 30%, actually. The rest goes to MS/Harmonix for setting up the system and doing all the hosting.

That's more than they'd make from iTunes, actually, after the label takes a cut, and *much* more than they'd make from a CD, which has retailers, distributors, and the labels taking out their respective cuts.

Not true. I'm an artist with releases on many online retailers (iTunes, Rhapsody, Mp3.com, etc) and we get a pretty good percentage of the songs sold on iTunes AND on CD. You're ASSUMING there's a label/distributor involved in that, but that's not always the case - and also, if you're on a label and it affects your iTunes profits then it will DEFINITELY affect your Rock Band Network profits, so either way, this statement is wrong. Haha, not trying to be a jerk, but it's incorrect.

Maybe you should make the Wii's online infrastructure easier to program for then.

From the rockband forums:

Q: Why can't PS3 and Wii owners use it?

A: XNA. Microsoft had the infrastructure in place for community members to upload content to the service independently, which is exactly what the RBN needs to work. Harmonix has said that they're working on getting around this limitation and bringing the full network to each system- and there are rumors that Sony is building something similar- but we don't know when just yet.

I'm a ps3/pc guy myself but it makes sense for them to have the xbox360 community do the thinning since they are the largest representation of their rock band players.

So do me a favor, pick good songs so I have something to play that I actually like.

*looks at trending music this generation*

christ, we're doomed to miley cyrus and taylor swift tracks aren't we?

Ugh, hopefully their "standout tracks" isn't too strict of a thing. I'm going to be pretty upset if only a small handful of the tracks actually get ported. Hopefully this makes a ton of money and in a couple months they just start porting everything over.

Requiem for a Dying Song too, very good choice. As well as a live song. They are easily one of the best live bands around today.

Can someone tell me where are the good songs.... Why RB and GH are just adding old stuff that only interesting old people. Seriously, I'm in the branch of gamers that loves RB in particular, but i'm tired to check new songs going out each month that aren't interesting me and my friends neither. I know I know, You'll tell me those games are about rock songs. But I'm the kind of guy listenning to everything but those.. Anyway, I'm happy to see it continusly evolving.

Not a single one of these songs, to my knowledge, is from before 2000. Wherever you're seeing this "old stuff that [is] only interesting [to] old people", it's not here. As for finding good songs, well, that's what this entire platform is about. FINDING new artists that aren't necessarily household names. If you're unwilling to put the effort to find the new good stuff, you don't have the right to complain about it not existing.

Once again, it sucks royally to be a PS3 Rock Band owner. I'd switch if I hadn't already bought so many damn songs.

As long as I can get JoCo's "Ikea" I won't become homicidal.

Sweet, Ron Wasserman (probably best known as the composer for the soundtrack toteh original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers) has a track on here. Say what you will about the show, but the music was pretty kick ass.
