The more that comes out, the uglier it gets for Activision.

Therefore, I want more to come out!

well it's a complaint. it's only one side of a story and until discovery starts they aren't actually even getting into the facts. Not to mention the MOA isn't here so you don't know if there is even enough in it to declare the existence of a contract.

this is just one side, with a lot of conjecture thrown in.

the interesting thing is there is a request to prevent Activision from making any modern warfare or call of duty game at all ever if it set in a time period after vietnam. Which for gamers would likely mean no Modern Warfare games for a very long time. But interestingly, i'm not sure how enforceable such a time period restriction is. It would mean nobody could make a modern warfare game set in the year 9099 or whenever. If there's an agreement maybe. But it's easily open for debate as to who owns the rights to the Call of duty franchise and the Modern Warfare brand.

I may not be a fan of infinity ward but the complaints they levy sound like Activion and most large publishers in general.

I don't recall EA locking employees in rooms and conducting personal (and legally dubious) interrogations. I don't recall Ubisoft confiscating phones and other devices.

Activision is the best at what they do.

Why just string Tim Schaeffer along for a year and then abruptly drop his project, when you can also sue him for trying to get another publisher to distribute the game you didn't want?

Why just fire the people who delivered a billion-dollar software title for your company, when you can also decide to revoke all of their owed royalties?

Why just kill a dude who's messing with you, when you can also skull-f*ck him in front of his mom?

I deeply admire Activision for their creativity and their passion. Now, just imagine if they channeled all of that into making games.

So tell me then, does that same admiration count for their legally questionable business practices? Do you condone such methods, however creative and passionate they may be?

Because, if so, you're just as disgusting as they are.

"West and Zampella were concerned that Activision was emphasizing quantity over quality."

If they weren't concerned about that from the get go, then they were totally snowed. I mean, this is Activision we're talking about here, and they are pretty well known for that, just like EA was before them.

You know what would be great, if you actually sourced your articles properly. Kotaku has had this posted since early yesterday and you're pretending like you just got this all by yourself. Way to go! Keep up the integrity.

and even then, they half-assed the image.

So THAT's why Modern Warfare 2 sucks. Or at least is not as impressive as MW1. (Downvote).

And here I was thinking it was IW fault.

Apparently they didn't want to do Modern Warfare 2, and the team was forced to work on it with a strict schedule. It definitely shows in the end-product.

COD4 seemed to be a game they truly put their hearts into with the promotions, beta, etc.. MW2 seemed to be made half-assed.

MW2 was ridiculously fun.. but mostly because it was just like COD4. There were certainly some improvements, but you could definitely tell the same amount of love wasn't put into it as was put into COD4.

It is possible that he bought it last month, and then went back to MAG.

Not everybody buys their games at launch.

Just sayin'.

I agree Ash, I was severely disappointed by MW2, Modern Warfare was one of my favorite games of all time, and when I first got MW2, I thought it might be the same, but as more people started joining in and finding the unbalanced portions of the game...it just turned it off for me. Yet, Activision will continue to make money off of the game...too bad they didn't get to design the game the way they wanted to...

Well, it was still a great game. But definitely "too much of the same", which leads to a stale product.

That seems to be the mandate of the businessmen in charge of these corporations. If this game made this much, the next will make more. And they ignore the fact that a game sells on its own merits (quality, gameplay, fun factor, story, etc.). They obviously think releasing a Call of Duty game will automatically earn them millions. But if they release a piece of crap game (say something with a metacritic rating of 65), it won't sell worth dick and they will lose money.

If IW made a new IP and put in the same quality they always have, it would make Activision millions. It seems pretty dumb and shortsighted to fire the two people who are ultimately responsible for that $3 billion in sales.

The said thing is, most of those complaints are most likely true. If you look at the history of Activision (more recently the Double-Fine/Brutal Legend debacle) it is obvious that this company is pure, pure evil. I would like to see if anyone still takes the side of Activision after seeing these documents. Even if 1/10th of this is true, it just goes to show you that Activision needs to be destroyed.

EA back in the day look like angels compared to Activision.

I hope Vince and Jason sue the living hell out of Activision, retain the COD name, and get everyone from IW to join them (except for maybe Fourzerotwo). I want to see this company burn to the ground (figuratively speaking, of course).

At some point things become common news. Kotaku doesn't have some exclusive channel to this information, despite them posting it earlier.

Anyway, none of that seems surprising. Activision gobbles up some good teams who make good games and then tries to make 40 variations of them. I'm surprised Call of Duty hasn't yet gone the way of Guitar Hero, but it doesn't sound like it's for lack of trying.

The moral of this story is... if you don't want to be told what to do, THEN DON'T SELL YOUR COMPANY TO A CORPORATION.

No matter what way you slice it, these dudes became EMPLOYEES the day they let themselves get greedy, and forfeited control of their studio to make a buck.

Things were different back then.

Now, they'll be able to make an independent studio, and go with EA Partners for their publishing.
