This is the best video game news I've heard all day.

Now, how long before the boycott?

There's no reason to boycott this. They never made promises about the game that were never fulfilled and they didn't release the sequel a year after the original.

Nah, people will boycott simply cuz they don't understand that the Portal team is a completely separate entity. Just as the L4D teams are separate entities from the HL team, or the TF2 team.

Exactly. They don't need a reason to boycott it. They'll make one up as a cover for "waaaaaaah, it's not Episode 3!"

Cool cover. Never can have too much Portal, it's just one of those puzzle games that can be supported forever and never get old.

What I don't get is why someone would chose to rebuild a super computer in the jungle, away from any easy power supply.

Who said it's in the middle of a Jungle? It could be on a remote island....

I could see it now Chell makes it out of the facility to be greeted by the cast from lost....

Well, that looks like GLaDOS, so maybe it's not a jungle, but merely overrun with plants. Could there be a time portal involved?

At any rate, I want to play this. Now. Like, get me into one of those time portals and let me play the game NOW.

Don't lose all hope yet. The news on Steam contained new clues and login info, so this ARG might still be alive. Hopefully Ep3 will be announced soon as well.
And it is GDC next week, with the ARG giving loads of pointed fingers at it.

Maybe Valve will do The Orange Box 2. Pack Portal 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 3, and, I dunno, Left 4 Dead 2 (or something) in and sell it for $50 PC/$60 Xbox.

I'D BUY THAT.

I've never played it either, simply because when the Orange Box came out on ps3, it was a complete mess of a port. Did the patch fix everything that was wrong?

You should make it your thing on Joystiq. Anytime a game is released that gets a lot of attention you should come in and say "Game of the Year."

You might not understand why so many people love Valve games (specifically portal) for the following reasons:

YOU'RE NOT A REAL PERSON!!!

Yes.

Half-Life (one of the best FPS ever made)
Half-Life 2 (one of the best FPS ever made)
Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (one of the best FPS ever made)
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 (one of the best FPS ever made)
Team Fortress 2 (the best class-based multiplayer shooter ever conceived)
Portal (one of the best puzzle games ever made)
Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2 (yes, l4d2. Cry more if you think it it too hard)

and all the mods that came out of those games (Counter-strike, Team Fortress, etc...)

Steam digital distribution (that is a big one)

In conclusion, we should be excited for anything Valve produces because it is always quality and the standard that all games need to be compared to. You should be excited when Gabe Newell takes a shit, or when Robin Walker takes a piss.

@Captain Planet

Portal is a good game, Valve being attached to it is a good thing. Some fanboys are just a little too overboard in my opinion.

I have to agree Valve is one of the most overrated developers, their stuff is decent, but doesn't deserve the amount of fanboyism it gets, Left 4 dead shows that they can release a giant turd and people will gobble it up

Portal had a cute gimmick but it was stupid easy and only served to show off its gimmick, I don't really pay attention to sequels that do what the original should have

It's odd to me how many gamers are so jaded they forgot that the point of games was simple fun. Not to blow your mind visually and to push a deep heart wrenching story - but to be fun.

Valve has made some of the best and most fun games and has earned the time that gamers have spent with their products - such as HL, TF2, and now Portal. They deserve the praise they get.
