Valve has already confirmed they are going to support the PS3, and that the reason they didn't support it with L4D is because they didn't have programmers with enough PS3 knowledge to do the platform justice. This is rumored to be part of the reason why Half-Life episode 3 is taking so long to develop, because they are working hard to get their engine working well on the ps3 (or building a new engine built from the ground up to support all three platforms) Also, with Valve moving Steam and Source games over to OSX, we can guess that they've also modified the source engine to use OpenGL, which would help greatly with PS3 development.

So stop whining.

It also baffles me why PS3 owners feel entitled to Valves games even though they have never developed for consoles or the PS3. Blindly expecting a company to support your platform when they traditionally have not is just silly. It looks like Valve is finally ready to work on the PS3, just like Kojima is now going to support the 360 for the first time, but the sense of entitlement for a developer to support your favorite platform just because you say so is mind boggling.

Except Kojima has nothing to do with Rising.

Valve's flipflopping on the issue doesn't help matters.

Flipflopping? They changed their minds. Once.

They originally didn't want to develop for the PS3 because they are a small company without the resources to invest in developing for an inherently difficult platform, with a small install base that doesn't sell that much software. The PS3 costs more to develop for than the 360 and (especially at the time when the comments were made) the 360 still sells a LOT more software. It wouldn't make sense financially to throw a bunch of money into a platform that would bring in not as much return.

Now the PS3 has a much larger install base and software sales are up so it actually makes sense to develop for it, in addition to that there are more programmers with PS3 experience available for hire making development more plausible for a small independent company like valve.

What I don't get is how you people whine and whine about how they aren't going to support the PS3, and when they come out and say they finally are you just whine some more. Shouldn't you just be happy you're getting the games you want on the platform you want? Or do you just like complaining for the sake of it?

Although it now seems a Steam port for Mac is on the way, Gabe Newell, a former Microsoft employee for 13 years, has only let Valve develop games for Microsoft systems – Xbox 360 and PC. Valve has flat out refused support for Sony or Nintendo, offering only vague promises of looking into it someday. They threw a hissyfit and refused to assist EA with the Half-Life Orange Box port for PS3. They've criticized the hardware up and down. Somehow I think if tiny developers like Gamecock (Hail to the Chimp) and PlayLogic (Fairytale Fights) can figure the PS3 out, Valve surely could have (without so much public whining). Maybe Portal 2 will release for PS3 someday and somehow, but it would only be after a large launch window to give Valve's kindred company (M$) time to earn the lion's share of the revenues.

Hammer, meet nail.

Newell's blatant fanboyism is the true cause.

So you send me to a pair of articles that say Valvle "may" hire a ps3 team, or will "think" about developing for it down the road? Hardly proof of upcoming ps3 games, especially since you can now pre-order the game at gamestop FOR THE XBOX ONLY.

All i was saying is that giving us the first game (regardless of who ported it) and not guaranteeing us the sequel is VERY unfair. I cant imagine being able to only play half the story.

I'm guessing the story will tie into the Half-Life 2 story.
Maybe the protagonist reaches Black Mesa or something.
I dunno, but it would be a fantastic way to remind us all that Freeman isn't dead.

Wow. Two pages worth of comments on a Portal article without anyone using the word "Triumph"...

... well now I have. Nevermind then.

I'll make a note here about the success level...

So, did anyone work out why the Steam announcement page has underlined letters, or am I just seeing things?

So us PS3 owners get the play the first one, but not the sequel? Valve is saying I only get to play HALF the story because of their laziness?

This is BS
