Portal 2 gets co-op, heading to Xbox 360 and PC

Today's big reveal of Portal 2 as next month's Game Informer cover did lots of us in the maniacal excitement department, but little for us in the hard facts department. But now, between Eurogamer being told by Valve that the game is heading to Xbox 360 and PC, and Game Informer's reveal that the sequel features a "two-player co-op mode [with] its own campaign [featuring] two new playable characters" (not to mention that it's set to release at "full retail price") we're ... well ... we're still kinda hurting for more news. The most important question of the moment, though: Can we have it right now? Please? We know you said this holiday, but what if we say pretty please? With cherries on top?

Easter is coming up, that's technically a holiday season...right?!

That could only mean one thing... Jesus is coming back and he's bringing Portal 2 for all of us!!

I declare St. Patrick's Day a holiday season.

I could use a good game to get me through the Easter weekend, but I really don't need anything else for St. Paddy's Day. That weekend pretty much takes care of itself.

Alright, I'm happy for Portal 2, more power to it, I want it. It sounds sweet to the maximum....

But come on Valve, stop the PS3 neglect, please I beg of you make for PS3 too, do you not want to make money? You can't stop acting like the system won't make you money or something, it's install base is as big as the 360's was when The Orange Box came out.

You got a PC. Use it. :P

Its not about how large the install base is. Valve don't make games for PS3 because it is a lot harder to program for, ESPECIALLY when Valve has programmed on PC for a VERY VERY long time. Comprendes?

I understand Valve is a PC developer, I understand the PS3 may be harder to program for.

But at this point, there is no reason not to make the game on the platform, it would make them money, and as a company, Valve would like to make money. I'm also sure Valve would like to have there game reach out to as many gamers as possible.

You have to start somewhere, whether or not the PS3 is "too" hard to program for.

I heard that developing for the PS3 would delay the game even further not to mention that consoles have these annoying contracts when it comes to updates or DLC.

Every update for the Ps3 would cost money to Valve since developers have to pay for the space used on Sony servers.Unless everyone is prepared to pay for every minor update this would only affect Valve reputation not to mention they are cool enough to give you a lot more for your money.

You would end paying full price for an inferior version anyway.

Well of course he is. He worked at Microsoft for years. And you don't see Naughty Dog specifically calling out the 360 as an inferior console.

Mr ESC, I have no idea what you are talking about. A ton of developers can handle the development of both the PS3 and the 360 version. Sure, maybe the current Valve employees don't have the experience to program on the PS3 but there is no excuse as to why they can't do what every other developer does, hire people with PS3 experience.

As for every update costing money, I give them $60 for a game and they give me support for that game. Why is this different from every other developer ever? Why should people be prepared to get charged for updates when no other game does that?

Do you have a better reason as to why he would ignore 30+ million potential buyers?

Especially since Sony has Naughty Dog people standing by to help the third parties fully exploit the hardware...

And what do you base this off? The fact he said that the PS3 was hard to code for when every other developer was saying the same thing at the time?

While we are calling out developers as fanboys:

Sucker Punch are a bunch of Sony fanboys, as well as David Jaffe, and David Cage.

They didn't come out and say 'oh teh hardware is garbage!'

You just named 3 people/development studios whose games were published/funded/co-developed by Sony.

I guess is that they could but how may ps3 owners are actually interested,most of the reactions I see is because its coming to the xbox 360 as well not because most of the people know valve.

My guess; it would be that they either don't have the resources to venture to the Ps3 and give the support it deserves,I mean look at the xbox 360.

It could also be that they don't know people with talent just roaming around that know how to develop for the PS3 and we are talking you could potentially end up paying more than PC and Xbox 360 users and get updates late.

I think they are more busy trying to get Episode 3 out at the moment.

Also would you really like to see Valve to become like any company,release multiplatform games every year sugarless of the quality and charge 5$ for 3 maps every 4 months.That leads to the Activision side of the force.

Now that I don't think they are Microsfot fanboys,they are supporting Mac I guess the PS3 is really tricky.

It's not that they can't program for the PS3,it's that they don't want to. I guess adapting and embracing new technology is beneath Valve. Who would have figured with a company like that?

i would point out gameinformer says this is coming to mac as well (presumably related to the announcement of steam for mac), so they're already doing work beyond their normal PC->360 ('C&P'). they should just put in the extra effort and port it to ps3 as well!

That is the purpose of ARG's, it's vague viral marketing. In fact a lot of the info pointed to a HL:EP3 and Portal 2 announcement. So it's more like using your brain.
