We know that some of you are less than excited about the return of vehicular gameplay to the Mass Effect franchise -- we still have vivid nightmares about our time behind the wheel of the Mako from the original game. However, your position will probably be reversed by last night's episode of GameTrailers TV, which showed off the Hammerhead vehicle which will arrive in the upcoming "Firewalker" DLC for Mass Effect 2. It is, in a word, rad. In two words? Totally rad.
Check out Chapter Four of the episode to see the Normandy SR-2 crew's new toy in action.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Personally though, I'd love to see the Mako make a comeback. I miss those first landing missions. It was all about the sensation of exploration, albeit on familiar terrain and terms.
Everything is just too disconnected in Mass Effect 2. I loved running from place to place, lifts included -- come on, after all, the game 'HAS' to load, right? Better the lifts than a looong loading screen and with no character dialogue between the team mates.

I agree, and hopefully the balance between exploration and resources should consist of landing on planets with the Mako or this Hammerhead vehicle to take over mining sites, overrun by hacked Mechs or Mercenaries, looking to mine the planets riches.
I mean heck, it's stated all over the planet fact sheets that Mercenaries and other alien races fight over the mining riches of the planets. So why not incorporate this feature into the exploration facet. So that now there is reason to land and explore the planets -- exploring outside of the mining sites could mean locating other bonuses, like treasures and whatnot, so the incentives are there.
Scanning the planets is brain numbingly boring and tumorous. far out, I seriously hate it and try to avoid, but can't! Argh!

I hope they dont do stuff like this as their pay DLC. Im not interested in paying 5 bucks for short DLC, its not worth it. I would love to have Episodes of Liberty City style DLC for a more substantial amount of money like $20.
Games need to bring back the "expansion pack" which feel like a new game and give you several hours of play. They cost more but theyre worth it and much more enjoyable than DLC like you got with ME1 and pretty much everything else.

i'd say yeah. cerberus network is $15, and i'd guarantee you that the normandy mission, zaeed, the cerberus shotgun and armor, and the hammerhead are all worth more than that. plus there is more DLC in the pipeline for cerberus (a new character at minimum, and who knows what else), so it'll only become more valuable over time.
plus it's not a bad thing that bioware actually gets to see your support. the whole point of this is to help them recoup losses from used game sales, you know?

It's worth it. Zaeed's loyalty mission is exciting and fun. Depending on the path you take through the mission, you'll either pick up a +heavy weapon ammo upgrade or a +assault rifle damage upgrade. Zaeed's grenade ability is very good against armored targets, which is useful on higher difficulties. He's a bit lame in that you can't talk to him on the ship like you can with the other companions, but w/e. He's one of the few companions that can use assault rifles.
Anyway, considering you got the game as a hand-me-down (for free?), tossing BioWare $15 isn't asking that much. It's only like one of the best games ever made.

Doesn't sound worth it to me. You can get ME2 for $35 on Ebay, shipped. The Cerberus content doesn't seem like it's more than an extra 3% of content. $15 for 3% extra content? Bleh!

Zaeed is always on my squad. Put it that way?
I don't know if its worth paying extra for though.

@Swagman, Bad Company 2 brand new comes with a "VIP Club" code. So there is a Cerberus Network in place for BC2. Also, nothing is ever free in this world. The extra content is made by people who must be paid for their labor. This, in turn, means a $60 game with that VIP code could've been a little cheaper than $60 if the extra content was not developed at all.
Project Ten Dollar hurts consumers more than it helps, although it's hardly a big deal at this point. And I question how much impact this is having on Gamestop, considering ME2 used is so cheap, and the Cerberus content is so meager and overpriced in comparison.
If the extra content was simply burned onto the a "Special Edition" version of the game and released alongside the standard edition, gamers would be able to buy that instead, but at a higher price. Players would still sell the game used, yes, but the used game market is actually beneficial the publisher, as it allows gamers to informally help each other buy the game. The used game market is no different than two siblings in the same household using their allowances together to buy a game they really like. It's just not as apparent on the surface since the collaborative buying process is done over a period of time.
The big enemy of publishers should be Gamestop, NOT Gamestop AND gamers who sell used games. Gamestop is the evil middleman who sucks money away from the industry for no benefit to anyone. If gamers could be educated to stop selling their used games to Gamestop, and instead use Craigslist or Ebay, the amount of money available to consumers and thus publishers would be much higher.

from what I understand, ME2 doesn't pull a Fallout 3 and allows you to go back and mess around after you beat the game

I was one bad-ass Mako pilot, so I don't care to bash it.
Go-Anywhere-Hover-Car-With-Cannon? It's not S.O.P.H.I.A. but it gets the job done, when that job is blowing up fools crouching behind cover.

In ME2 I can only imagine that my Normandy probes are demolishing pre-fab outposts with particularly high deposits of Platinum. *FOOM*

The Mako is great. Hopping over missiles, while blowin' stuff up. Ramming sniper towers, and jumping off mountains. Once you master the Mako, it's damn fun.
There are only a couple moons/planets in the game that had super steep terrain. Otherwise the Mako would get over anything. It's all about the zig-zag and finding the next little fold to pop a wheel over.
Sorely missing from ME2 for me.

I liked it too...On consoles at least. It controlled just like the Scorpion tank in Halo (with a few more horse powers). The PC version is terrible for controlling.

Oh, and not being able to take of your helmet in DLC armor is a FEATURE. Don't let anyone else tell you different. Thanks Bioware!

Here, here!
And as I've said in my previous comment, near the top, the Mako missions should consist of taking back mining refineries, fighting mercenaries or hacked mechs, and what ever else, as part of the mining for resources missions.
And as you said, not to mention, the diversify the stages and environments on other missions, all of which are certainly much more fun than scanning planets with no real interaction, apart from the sudden jolt of unconsciousness you'll wake yourself from as your life signs drop.

Just wondering... does this also equate to more bugs? As much as I love this game it's the constant bugs that occur many a times during my plays, and I happen on them every single play time.
Plase iron out the bugs, Bioware... and for Mass Effect 3, can we plase have proper female hair styles/cuts instead of mops?
STill, being free it's a bonus if anything else. Kinda looking forward to this, but NOOOT the bugs!

I've talked this to death. Buttt, I'm disappointed with this DLC. I was hoping the hammerhead would add some much wanted exploration and it has not. I also feel like it does not fit in the game and there is no reason for it. It just seems like Full Auto. I miss the Mako, yea it was incredibly flawed but if they were to fix it up and fix up the open area exploration it could have been legen.....dary.

Loved ME1, cant stop playing ME2. miss the mako somewhat.but the fact that you get free DLC is awsome no matter what & all you have to do is buy the game brand new , but knowing that thier will be some DLC you may have to pay for. all & all Bioware is taking care of its fans big time.so if you don't have this game yet or on the fence . go get it its worth the buy .
