New 360 Elite bundle includes Halo 3: ODST and Forza 3 for $300

Are you preparing to buy your first ever Xbox 360, and are looking for the best value for your money? Both parties are in luck -- Amazon recently added a listing for an Xbox 360 Elite Spring 2010 bundle, which includes Halo 3: ODST, Forza Motorsport 3 and a 120GB hard drive for just $299.99. According to the listing, this bundle will go on sale next Tuesday, March 9 -- the same day the $399 Final Fantasy XIII bundle hits Amazon's virtual store shelves.

We're extremely excited about this news -- not because it's a great deal (though it really, really is), but because it's allowed us to break the world record for "Most Times Using The Number '3' In A Single Headline." Thanks for making this dream possible, Microsoft.

they come up with good bundles, but they also come up with shitty bundles as well. pure and lego batman as their bundle for the holidays? they could have sold this halo 3: ODST and forza 3 bundle back then for $400 and it still would have sold like crazy.

And still only comes with a composite cable?

you can get an HDMI cable for like a nickel, i don't understand the fuss

@Spike: Exactly, I don't understand why MS cannot bundle in a cheap HDMI cable with the 36o that will cost you hundreds of dollars. Heck, they used to at least bundle the component cable.

they should bundle no cable. no matter what they pack half of the cables will get thrown out, that's just wasteful.

@Space: Maybe if they bundle something more useful like a component/HDMI cable, there will be less waste since people will buy less cables.

The PS3 does not include an HDMI cable. its a valid complaint though, luckily i just went on MonoPrice and picked up like 3 of them a few years ago. the 360 elite actually used to come with an HDMI cable (the PS3 was the reason i went onto mono price and picked one up). im sure the reason has more to do with what outlets like walmart/bestbuy/target wanted Vs. the cost of including the cable.

Oh, by the way, where's the hard-drive upgrades? Is MS telling me that the only way to expand my 20GB hard-drive is to buy a whole new console?

You can buy the 60gb and 120gb ones standalone.

@nerdydesi: Nope, 120GB one is no where to be found as MS stops making it. Only 60GB is available, and imo that's not enough. The only reason that MS did this, and then release a slew of 360 bundles, is merely to tempt users of older 360s to just splurge for a new one.

I think the 250GB is supposed to replace the 120GB standalone they phased out, was listed at the same price point the 120GB has been selling for too, so not too shabby a deal.

@Granger: That sounds good, if only MS actually makes it available. The 120GB has not been available for months, and we don't even see a definite release of the 250GB drive.

Okay everyone, help me out. I was planning on getting the Splintercell Bundle but this one seems better than an extra controller plus $100 cheaper. So I'm asking everyone, is 250GB even needed ? How much have you guys used up? I've never had an Xbox 360

this is a great bundle. i don't think a 250 gig drive is really needed unless you plan on downloading a massive amount of stuff. here's another perspective:
my 360 has a 20 gig, definitely NOT enough
my ps3 has a 60 gig, it has been more than enough.

so 120 gig should be good. either choice you make will be a good one :)

IMO i'm fine with a 60GB as long as you don't use it as a media server, it can stream stuff of your pc.

I would get this bundle. The 2 games included are very good and an extra controller can be found on sale many times at Amazon, k-mart, etc. Then jsut buy conviction separately.

That's almost as big as Sony packaging Uncharted 2 and Ratchet in with a PS3 Slim for $300. Those were Microsoft's two big games last holiday season. Props to them for putting out a package with some value (even though the thing still doesn't have built in Wi-Fi).

As an aside, I said "almost", because I don't really think you can equate Uncharted 2 (easily my GOTY) and Ratchet (the pinnacle of the series IMO), to ODST (a fun but glorified expansion pack) and Forza 3 (a racing game that doesn't have the same appeal as a shooter or action game). Doesn't change how awesome of a deal this is, I'm just saying.

If you really want to get Splinter Cell, just buy it with this bundle. It's still cheaper then getting an Elite Plus, and I don't think you'll use all 120GB unless you're buying a lot of video content or full games. So don't even worry about 250GB. Plus, if you really want a second controller, the extra $40 you'll have left over from not buying the Elite Plus is enough to get you one on eBay these days.

So you're really just weighing the value of the larger hard drive versus a copy of ODST and Forza 3. IMO that's a no brainer.

I have a first gen 360....she's been good to me...but it's time to retire her, to back up console/dvd player/netflix box...I have begun salivating over this bundle...if I wasn't saving up for the nexus one...I would pick this up immediately....

Good combo, but if there is a either a Halo ODST with GOW2 or LFD2, I'll go for those.

You know what this means? Forza 3 will be super cheap by fall. Then all of you have no excuse not to play it!

If you call 4.7 million for an expansion pack and 2.5 million for Forza 3 "not selling well", then you don't know what you're talking about. Both games have been out for a grand total of about 6 months. So they are relatively new. Care to guess whats the best selling exculsive game on the PS3? Metal Gear Solid 4 with 4.6 million sold and its been out for 2 years. A friggin expansion pack has sold more than PS3's best exclusive! pathetic isn't it
