That's actually a function you can change in the menus, and it affects the V.A.T.S. HUD as well.

I was hoping it wouldn't look like Fallout 3.

I've had enough of Fallout 3 w/ Expansions that the look and feel is old.

Yeah, I thought New Vegas was supposed to be a completely new game? It looks to use the same engine, which would make it a glorified expansion. Not that that's a bad thing, but I was hoping for some new art style, new game mechanics, etc. I think they even used the same character model for Walter from Megaton for that old black guy, as well as Sydney's model.

At least they arent using an engine that only the most powerful computers can handle smothly. Easier to run = more sales on the pc front.

and thats in no way a bad thing. Fallout 3 was a fine looking game, although i was never a big fan of the neo-apocalyptic 1950s art style. new vegas can only go so far in making it look and feel different.

Not only does is look like Fallout 3 with more color, but it's art style is just as ugly. I was hoping for a change. Oh well. I'll probably still play.

Why the hate for Czar?

I agree with him. After so much Fallout 3 content, it is a bit disappointing that these screenshots make New Vegas seem incredibly similar to Fallout 3.

I know they are just a few screenshots but wholly crap, the quality of the graphics, the text, the VATS system all look almost EXACTLY like Fallout 3 which is disappointing.

@TonicBoy

If using the same engine on a new game is your way of classifying it as a genuine sequel versus a "glorified expansion", then the Unreal Engine would like a word with you about its 100s of games.

Bethesda has outright said that you wouldn't be seeing much of anything new gameplay and mechanic-wise until they release Fallout 4. It's pretty much what Call of Duty or GTA are doing with their series. Make a numbered one, then have a couple spin offs.

It looks like we get to beat the crap out of characters that look like Shaq in Steel. That's a big plus in my book.

Hey, I'm happy as long as New Vegas doesn't look like either Fallout 1 or 2.

If they could improve the Uncanny Valley when talking to NPC's (which often creeped me out, esp. if they started talking to me from an off angle to the side), then, great. But considering how substantial of an overhaul that would be, I'm not expecting much from NV.

Yes, the engine is outdated. But in 2006 it was still pretty damn good for what it could do, so why the Oblivion hate?

@EvinTheSwift

Really? Did you really just call it "Oblivion 4"?

If you're going to chastise Bethesda's graphics technology, you could at least remember the NAME of their damn games..

But seriously those games were HUGE, games like Fallout or GTA may not look like FFXIII or Bayonetta but consider how much sheer time and effort that would take.

For what they were, Fallout 3 and Oblivion looked pretty damn good!

I really liked The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. But Fallout 3, I thought, was just really bad. I know many people loved it, but not me, I promptly returned it soon after playing it. I also know of many other people that did not like it, although one of my best friends loved it. Many of his friends also did not like.

Fallout: New Vegas looks just like Fallout 3, so I will have to give it a pass.

Saw these about a month ago in the article revealing most of the information with New Vegas, but its nice to see them in decent quality.

I'm a facial-hair fanatic, so seeing that Lee Van Cleef-esque mustache makes me happy.

Unconfirmed, but the Gamestop Game Day Sale that happens this March 25th will have Fallout 3 for 20 bucks. Would still be a better value to get the GOTY with all the DLC though.

@ CL4P & Trep :

Sad thing is, I actually own the original Fallout 3 game and strategy guide. Then all this DLC talk came out, then I heard about the GOTY Edition. So I'm going to try and get the GOTY Edition & Strategy Guide instead before I start, try to sell the old versions or something. Even though I have a 250GB Slim and space isn't a problem, I'd rather have all the DLC on-disc.

Actually if you move out towards California, they become more and more common. So if you think about how far a'head in the future the game is set, its very possible that they migrated in due to climate change.
If you live in Vegas, take into account of how much rain we are having in the past month, so maybe it becomes a regular occurrence.

just sayin'
