Could this be a sign of an upcoming x360slim? Or maybe they want to go the opposite direction with the x360phat.

Would they really want to go back to having a system so big you could kill someone with it by dropping it on their head?

@Mowdown

Like you couldn't do that with the 360 now. You could kill someone with one of the early revision power bricks...

Why the hell do you get upvoted for saying "cool story bro"? I swear that is one of the most annoying phrases on the internet. And its not like Armageddon was just saying random crap, he was actually replying to the article.

Because even though he's responding, it's just a standard facebook status type reply: "Hi, I'm eating a sandwich." In this context, it practically IS random.

To which successful troll responds, "cool story, bro" facetiously.

It's elementary interwebs etiquette, man.

What's worse? Being unable to articulate your complaint because of poor grammar, or not having your valid complaint's credence diminished by grammar police?

While I like a verbose and well utilized lexicon, nit-picking instances inure one to language's breadth. Why bother when you can just use newspeak and avoid the grammar police altogether, txt and l337 are out of their jurisdiction. Counter-intuitive indeed.

Xbox 360 Slim? Pack the mid and high end SKUs with a Natal camera and that'd be one hell of a one two punch for the holidays.

...or this could just be another motherboard revision for the ever aging and ever failing 360 hardware, lol.

Now, Mr. Designer, make it fault-tolerant, please?

I really hope a 360 slim is made. My only issue with a slim design would be the HDD. Its the width of the console. So they couldn't really make it SLIM. Maybe shorter. Or they could just continue being Microsoft and make a new HDD....

The HDD is as wide as the 360. So if it was to sit on the top like the current 360, the slim 360 would have to be the very same thickness. Get it?

No, have it be horizontal only like the old Xbox (that'd also help stop the disc scratching issues too) and rest on top.

Think Cj. It depends which way you define as top. There is no definite top on the 360. He meant top when it is laying down. Unless they want to only shorten it front to back they will either have to make the HDD fit in like that or design a new HDD.

The HDD would look pretty ugly if they made it plug into the top (when it is laying down)

If they do anything, they should just shorten the console and/or integrate the power adapter.

Ah I forget people lay it down. Im so used to the vertical look. But placing it in the middle when its horizontal wont look very attractive. I wouldnt mind it it was just smaller but I was just battling with calling it SLIM. Its either not going to be slim, a horrible placement on its horizontal top or a new HDD design. A

All in all a smaller 360 with an internal power supply and a slot loading disk drive would be nice. Plus killing the RROD would be very nice.

Maybe a smaller Xbox 360 would look more like a Mac Mini than a PS2 slim. The hard drive would still stick on the end, it'd be a little bit wider than the optical drive (or slot), but as "thick" as it is now.

Why do people want a slim? (or like PS3 slim) Do y'all honestly carry it around town that often? And if they're system link/lan parties, are there really that many parties that often? For most of us I'm sure they don't move around much, beyond a couple of feet when people move it out of their cabinets and such. Honest question.

Uhm...isn't this a little late in the game to be looking for motherboard design engineers if MS intends on designing, manufacturing and oh yes, QA their hardware in time for launch?

I'm still on my first one, although my disc tray is getting to the point where I gotta open and close it multiple times to get it to read a disc on most occasions. I also had a lot of trouble with the thing just freezing up on me a whole lot, and I decided to open the sucker up, since my warranty expired and I figured I might have a shit ton of dust in there. i was right, got rid of all the dust that was stuck in there, put it back together and it's smooth sailing. Now I got the experience of taking the thing apart, I figured I might just replace the disc tray myself as well.

I would design it so that most of the important hardware functions would be modular. For example I'd make it so you could change the graphics chip, thereby allowing microsoft to upgrade the graphics mid-life cycle. The same could be done for the RAM, and CPU. In addition I'd include a standard interface for storage so that the user could cheaply add additional storage without paying premium prices and without sacrificing their previous storage space.

This would be a great design because not only would the machine not be rendered obsolete within a year but also because the competition of independent hardware developers would drive the technology at a faster rate than any single company could.

I can only image a platform like this.

Jokes aside, I'd like it if consoles had RAM upgrade ports, a la the Saturn or the N64 Expansion Pack.

If they did do such a thing there's zero chance they'd allow 3rd party developers in on the action.

Anyway that's half the reason I'm not into PC gaming. I like popping in a game and knowing it's exactly the experience that the developers intended. I don't like wondering if a RAM or processor upgrade could improve my gaming experience.

While I do agree with you (the RAM expansion would be very nice, since that's the major limiting factor for games on consoles right now and it's been proven mildly feasible before, especially as an optional feature for better graphics), I have to say that such a platform exists: It's called the 100% IBM-PC compatible

My 360 finally died. While watching a DVD no freaking less. I heard a pop and the DVD froze. Sadly, I knew what finally struck me. It was a console from about 1 year after launch so it was due.

I believe mine only lasted so long since I didn't play games on it very often. At least later in its life.
