ff-ii was awesome! i remember when i first played it, i got stuck at the last dungeon (because my party was too weak to beat the final boss) and had to crawl my way out by saving after every step because any random encounter could kill my party.
*sigh*

good times, good times.

That's interesting, because you couldn't save anywhere you wanted in Final Fantasy II (IV), so the fact you saved after every step is amazing (impossible).

Everyone did. Hence why keeping FFIV named FFII was a stupid move.

OIC, I thought you were talking about the original SNES version.

I find it ridiculous that Nintendo/Square Enix decided to stay with the numbering scheme of the NA SNES Final Fantasies after we have had all of the missed titles for years.

Then again, this could mean that we'll be getting FFVI faster than expected. Which would be ideal.

Hahaha, all these down-votes. I should have been clearer; I meant the wonky naming, not any of the games.

Except maybe Final Fantasy II (NOT IV. THE REAL ONE)

Considering Virtual Console games are released without any modifications, it's hardly ridiculous. You want them to change the name in the listing when the title screen will be the same?

On top of that, FFII for the Super NES was slightly different than FF IV. It was easier, some dialog was different, and some stuff was censored. Like those dancing chicks.

The game was released as Final Fantasy II on the Super NES, and that is how the Super NES version of the game should be released on the Virtual Console.

Kids will play "Final Fantasy II" and then they will play Final fantasy 4: the after years, and they will assume final fantasy 3 takes place in between these two games.

There are simple ROM hacks for both the American SNES Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III that give them the real FF4 and FF6 title screens, but change nothing else (the Ted Woosley translations remains untouched).

It wouldn't be beyond Nintendo or Square Enix's script-fu to apply one of these hacks/changes before packaging the ROM in the Virtual Console container file.

This is just a lazy rush to get FF2us out on VC for FF13's release (considering both of Nintendo's rival consoles are getting FF13, but Wii is not).

If anyone wants to play FF4 or FF6 legitimately (not via ROM emulation) I'd highly recommend getting Final Fantasy IV Advance for GBA over this VC release.

I picked up FFXIII early, and trust me there is nothing that makes me question its quality(on PS3). Its a fantastic game and if your not able to play it then you are severely missing out.

You'd think they could do a simple edit to the title screen to make it a IV or something. Way to be confusing.

I'd rather save my money and get one of the better translations in the random ports they've done over the years.

I used to have FFII & III for the Snes. I still have one of them, but I only ever got one of them to work. The one I still have doesn't work. Sounds like that Magic Marker game is like Scribblenauts or that cartoon Chalk Zone.

Wait, they went back to the old numbering scheme for Final Fantasy IV? Weird.

Here's a story about how big of a nerd I am - I learned to read playing this game. I was like 4 or something, and I would play this game because my big sister was playing it too and I thought it was cool. But whenever I would play, my sister or my mom would have to read it to me. Eventually, I caught on, and thus learned to read playing Final Fantasy II (IV).

... and also probably why I'm so dang excited for XIII tomorrow and I'm 24 now.

They didn't go back to the old numbering. They never changed it for the Super NES games. The Super NES games have always been FF II and FF III. Virtual Console games are released without any modifications. Changing the name but leaving the title screen the same makes no sense. Changing the title screen means it's not the original Super NES version.

How come the US has both NES Final Fantasy games for Virtual Console but the EU hasn't had any yet? We've not had Super Mario Kart yet either...

it could be many things, but I would bet it's because any time a company releases something in the EU, the EU sues said company for some made up reason.

It's pretty ridiculous that they didn't change the title screen, considering they have the sequel to Final Fantasy IV on WiiWare. Square could've had increased sales of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

Then it wouldn't be the original Super NES release. Then it wouldn't belong in the Virtual Console.

I find it ridiculous that people want something changed i a section where releases are of original and unmodified games.

They could have just translated the Super Famicom release of FF4 with the FF4 title screen.

By that logic, Sin & Punishment should have never come out in anything but Japanese. But they bothered to translate it even though that didn't exist before.

There are exceptions. They could easily make them without ruining anything for anyone.

I find the original SNES release of FFII(IV) pretty much unplayable these days thanks to the insipid translation that was MUCH improved in subsequent releases and the dumbed down combat compared to the Japanese "hard" version.

YAY!!! I can finally turn my wii back on after sitting there for 6 months. FFII was my favorite game for the SNES. Story line was completely epic...can't wait to play it through again for the 100th time=)

Dracula Undead awakening is an alright game. Pretty shallow and somewhat unrewarding, but if you are the high score type, its great. Its also a PSP mini game(which is better value, as you buy just once, and play on both ps3 and psp, c'mon nintendo, do a fan a favor!). As for FF, I can't get past the number system now...methinks the ds version or a possible psone version will be what I go for.
