Bodycount confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3; early 2011 release
35
Taking aim at the "whack-a-mole mechanics" of your typical cover-based shooter, Codemasters is finally ready to take the wraps off Bodycount, the new first-person shooter IP in production at Codemasters Studios Guildford under the direction of Black creator Stuart Black. "Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can't hide behind indestructible cover," says Black. "Here the environment is constantly changing as the game world is shot to hell; it's going to be a huge amount of fun."
That huge amount of fun will be built on the EGO Game Technology Platform, an evolution of Codemasters' EGO Engine, for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The story has something to do with killing 'Targets' – those are the bad guys – on behalf of the 'Network' – ostensibly the good guys. In addition to a full campaign, Bodycount will feature expected FPS enhancements like online multiplayer and co-op modes.
Codies' "first internally produced new IP for many years" will be shredding environments in Q1 2011. We'll let executive producer – and former Sony London director – Tom Gillo have the last comically hyperbolic word on Bodycount: "From the jaw-dropping devastation caused by firing into enemies or shredding the world around you in a hail of bullets, Bodycount will crystalize that moment of pulling the trigger into an exhilarating sensory overload of action."

We can't call it generic until we've seen gameplay, how else can 3 pictures of an FPS game look not generic

Well, we've only seen 30 seconds of leaked gameplay from project needlemouse (new sonic) and already it's been destroyed fans. In the game industry, 99% of the time, you should judge a book by it's cover.
Exceptions to the rule: Okami, all the kingdom hearts games, ico and shadow of the collosus.

I don't know. I thought Ico, SOTC, and Okami all looked amazing from the get-go.
But I agree with your initial sentiment: HD Black = I'm there.

If thats the case, then I should sum up the fact that Reach looks Generic now, when in fact it could be the best and most refreshingly original FPS to day, despite how it comes across as 'just another halo'
I understand your point and in most cases you're right, but we've (the gamers) been horribly wrong before

@Robert
Exactly. Thing is, this could be the "sequel" to Black, meaning the spiritual successor since it's under the same director. Hopefully it doesn't suck intensely or get trampled over by any other games

It's got a whole year for development though and Codemasters has teh skillz. I think game devs should refrain from announcing their games too early to avoid just this kind of reaction to early screenshots..

So many games have promised "constantly changing" environments where "everything" is interactive, but how often has that been delivered? Ohhh never from my memory of the games I've played.

Are you referring to the black man? I actually would buy this FPS if I knew I was playing as a black person. Seems like all FPS games out you play as a white man. Hurray for MINORITIES!

Great another FPS...I wonder what they are going to inlcude that would make someonne stop playing crysis 2(this fall) or even the next call of duty. I mean come on developers need to mix it up a little, everywhere i turn its another FPS,"shoot everything that appears on screen, blow shit up" title. It's getting redundant.

Shredding sh*t never gets old!
So: Why complain about a genre? Just don't patronize it. There are more games in most genres in this gen than anyone could afford. So why bi*tch about someone else having their tastes catered to when there is plenty to go around for everyone? Ignore stuff you're not into!

I voice my opinion simply because...i want to lol I wasnt complaining about the genre in general as i like FPS as well, my point was that many(not all) shooters don't offer too many things that can set themselves apart from the big dogs previously mentioned. So it was pointed at generic shooters, not the FPS genre.
And yea, not paying too much attention to stuff im not into is like..obvious lol

I might be interested if it weren't yet another FPS that doesn't come to PC.

Ummm...BC2 anyone? If destructible cover is their biggest selling point, I think they need to make a new game.
Plus there are too many FPS games that look better than this. I'm mostly looking forward to Brink, but Rage and the "rumored" TimeSplitters 4 also look awesome.

This is just what the video game market needs. Another company making another mind numbing FPS hoping to be the next COD or GOW. Just because you can blow stuff up does NOT mean your game is going to be "a huge amount of fun". If that is all you are relying on, then your game will turn out to be garbage, just like the screen shots supplied above. What did they do, close their eyes and run their finger down a list of generic shooter game names? Perhaps they have forgotten about a little DOS game from the early 90's called "Operation Body Count". Or maybe they hoped everyone else had forgotten about it so they could steal the name...
