Okay, Mac gamers, take a deep breath. It's been a busy day. Steam is coming to the Mac. The Left 4 Dead games will even support multiplayer across PC and Mac platforms. You're just not used to all this attention, we understand. Bear with it though, because there's more on the way. In a recent tweet, DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson stated, "We like it!" in reference to Valve's Mac Steam announcement. When asked by UGDB.com whether the company had plans for a Mac version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Troedsson responded, "We're currently investigating the possibility of making BFBC2 available on Mac."
It wouldn't be the first time a Battlefield game was ported to Mac -- the most recent being Battlefield: 2142 -- but it could be the first Battlefield released on Mac via Steam. Again, Mac gamers, it's a lot to take in. Try to get some sleep and we'll start fresh tomorrow.

Definitely not.
They should work on getting their servers working first though before worrying about porting the game over to Mac. They were apparently unprepared enough for all the PC/360/PS3 players, so let's not go adding any more people into the mix just yet, DICE. kthx

So does this make the PC/Mac platform make it viable to develop for PC/Mac exclusively or at least less half assed ports. Plus we all know Pc gamers are way better at TF2

That Valve guy is right. The age of plattform wars is over. Its about choosing and accessing services now - now matter what hardware you have. You should get the same / very similar experience on it.
In 2 years we will have to choose if we want to subscribe to MW3 or BFBC3 ;) for 5-10EUR a month, while the game is free.

Maybe they should be more concerned with getting the game to work on 360, PC, and PS3 before porting it to something else. :P

You should install smc fan control for your mac, and crank the fans up to near max. then RESTART (not shut down) and hold alt down, and open the windows partitions. Your fans will stay on now.
I made the mistake (Mac newbie here) of not realizing my fans didn't turn on when I booted up in Windows, and my computer always shut down because I just was a gamer in Windows. Was aggravating!

get the PC, macs are nice for what they do, but PCs have more 3rd party support, and you can use that extra $1000 to buy around 20 new PC games

You have to love mac buyers.... they are getting last years technology at an overly inflated price. Thanks for helping to clear intels backstock, guys.

Did you come up with that fallacy filled logic all by yourself or are you repeating what you heard elsewhere?

I didn't know Core i5's were last years inventory? A 27" iMac is $2000. A Dell Studio XPS with a 23.5" monitor and 'similar' specs because they can't be made totally equal, is $1670. Still a $330 difference, but with a smaller monitor, and no web cam built in. I'd venture going from a 23.5" LCD to a 27" IPS LCD is going to be at least a $200 difference in price, so really, theres ~ $100 difference. Graphics are similar in that the iMac has a 4850 and the Studio has a 5770 Radeon. The 4850 is a little faster, but lacks the DX11 features.

Or, if you already have a mac, you could just be excited that now you get to play games on it.

Remind we which part of Intel launching new processors in Macs exclusively for a limited time indicates last year's technology?

@lan
The 4850 is not faster than the 5770, that was the 4870, and that's only a little bit faster currently, and with driver improvements for the 5770, the 5770 is catching up, not to mention the 4850 and 4870 can't really overclock, and the 5770 is an easy overclocker. I thought all macs came with Nvidia GPU's though.

Just checked apple's site, apparently they don't anymore, the highest priced imac uses the 4850, which really is a decent gpu, but it just doesn't match the 5770. Not to mention the 5770 uses up less power and is quieter, at least then the 4870, likely the 4850 too though.

The 4850 does consume more power than the 5770, while also being less powerful and more noisy. http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/video/radeon-hd5770-hd5750/5700_power3dm.png

Only happened to me once all weekend. The one connection issue is every time I'd turn on my Xbox for the first time, boot BC2, and try and join a multiplayer game, I'd get booted out to dashboard. This only happened for the first boot of the game, but it was pretty common for a bit.

I would totally add the game to my steam account if it worked on both platforms. Otherwise I am sticking with my 360.

Valve games will port between Windows and Mac for no extra cost. Other games, its up to the developers.

I'd imagine any serious Mac gamer (if they exist) has a windows partition anyway.

We do, but now we don't have to use it. I've been dreaming about the day I would never have to look at Windows again (because, oolz, the Mac partition is where we "get things done, and the Windows partition is where we go play games.... and nothing else).

I don't have a Windows partition, and don't want one. Who wants to waste storage space on 2 partitions when you don't have to?

I'm afraid that BFBC2 *will* be crashing Cider stuff should it ever come to the Mac. Simple equation: DICE = EA = Cider ports. *All* recent EA ports have be ciderised crap.

I imagine it'd be hard to multitask a shooter and graphic design, unless you are some kind of avant-garde artist turning your shooter control inputs into some tech-age Pollock-like work.
