Yikes is right.

"XIII is best on PS3"?
At least the proceedings seem to have gone relatively smoothly after that.

Well he was speaking the obvious truth, it is on one disk, and it is proven better on PS3 (even if slightly). So why wouldn't things run smoothly after or anyone disagree?

@Smooth

I'm all for PS3 (as I have one and not a 360), but it doesn't make his statements any less edgy than what they were.

Pushing too far, if you ask me.

It is better on PS3 because they chose to make it better. To then dwell on how they didn't put effort in to the 360 version when there are Microsoft guests there is rude.

Sounds like a wedding I once went to...

No different than the hot wife (PS3) marrying the less attractive husband (360) for money.

Throw in some rowdy, half-drunken uncles/execs and you'd get the same party you had at this launch debut...

@wormania

the only people i've heard saying Square didn't put effort into the 360 version is Digital Foundry, and DF's impartiality in the 360 vs PS3 debate is highly questionable. they knock the developer for a shoddy PS3 to 360 port, but knock the PS3 for a shoddy 360 to PS3 port, despite clear evidence that the system is capable of the same (and in some cases, better) quality graphics as the 360.

as far as i'm concerned this is tic-for-tack. Microsoft pulled almost the exact same stunt with MW2 ads, saying XBox 360 was the best way to play it, when both versions were nearly pixel-for-pixel identical. at least with FFXIII there's clear evidence that one version is better.

still, what more can you expect from PR?

I don't believe it is rude.. I mean there were sony executives attending microsoft's e3 conference and saying "THE XBOX 360 IS THE NEW PLAYSTATION" last e3 or the one before that is more disrespecful then " FF XIII IS BEST ON PLAYSTATION 3"

So they invited people from Microsoft, only to slap them in the face by (having Sony) saying that FFXIII is meant to be played on the PS3 and not the 360, at all.

Yes because Microsoft exudes class to the highest degree. in fact, we should all take lessons of being kind, respectful and classy from Microsoft.

Give me a break, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all dicks when it comes to PR and self-promotion.

My first console was technically the 3D-i.

I played single player Mario Party.

I have never played a Final Fantasy game either.

I had the Turbo Duo, which was better. TG16 had the first console cd-rom and had some fun-ass games. Unfortunately, it never really had the support and recognition as its competitors. But I still have it and love it.

But then it still has 2 full exclusive FF games coming out, plus the fact FF13 was exclusive in Japan and it looked rather shite on 360, so from that perspective, the pwnage of loosing FF13 exclusivity doesnt seem that bad at all any more, if anything I'm sure Hardcore Sony Fanboys have moved on from that a long time ago and are sipping on the finest champange at the moment.

Curse those dreaded fanboys >.

to be honest, It makes absolutely no difference to me, what platforms it releases on just as long as my platform gets a good release, but to quote Andrew:

"Shortly thereafter, a Sony spokesperson also took the stage, emphasizing how Final Fantasy is a PlayStation franchise, and how XIII is best on PS3, on a single Blu-ray disc -- the way it was meant to be played"

That is just pure classic timeless pwnage..

I look forward to your impending doom.

More on topic, has anyone else had a few issues trying to register the game on their site for the "special bonus"? I swear, after finally figuring it out and trying to register for the PS3 FFXIV beta it told me my code was either wrong or already in use. This after I had just gotten it 5 seconds earlier...

hey, square-enix? next time instead of lying about how the story forced you to make it a linear game experience, dont make a spin-off (ff13versus) and a mmorpg(ff14) at the same time you make the next main installment of ff13 (you greedy s...o...b).

Working on multiple installments simultaneously hasn't stopped them from producing quality work before. III & IV and VIII & IX were in development at the same time, and those are just the only examples I know of. What it really comes down to is creativity - the willingness to do something bold with your multi-million dollar franchise, the intuition to have that something be functional and innovative, and the passion to create an experience that will mean as much to the player as it does to you. Square Enix has gotten so big and corporate that I don't think it really has any of those things anymore, or at the very least not the last one - hence why so many of its best developers have left. I also frown on the fact that, unlike previous numbered entries, they specifically made XIII with the intention of producing sequels and spinoffs, which sounds like a sure-fire way to produce a half-assed, incomplete-feeling story. Add to that the developer's shameless attempts at pandering across two extremes - hardcore FF junkies and mainstream/casual gamers who have never touched an RPG before - and you have a product that's more commercialism than passion. Granted, Square has always been business-savvy, but what set games like FF7 apart is that you could tell the developers really, truly cared about what they were making, and what they were making was something different. This game, I'm not so sure about.

Let's remember that the 360 even getting this game was always a bonus, and surprise. Sure the game looks better on the PS3 but Microsoft have hardly been owned by that comment. Back when FF13 was announced if you had said to 360 owners how would you like FF13 on your 360 but with slightly worse graphics how many people would have said no thanks?
