Modern Warfare 2 enlists 25 million unique players, Bowling says

It's not so surprising, really, that Modern Warfare 2, arguably the world's most popular video game, would recruit such a staggering amount of bodies for its perpetual online war. But, there it is: 25 million unique players, as revealed in a tweet from Infinity Ward's community guy-at-large, Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling. We've contacted Infinity Ward for specific platform numbers, but in the meantime, Bowling offers a bit more to chew on:

He confirms the majority of players are taking the fight to Xbox Live, but he says the PS3 comes in at "a close" second. That puts the PC space in third, though it's still enlisted "millions," according to Bowling. But, what about that boycott? Oh, right.

Now, it should be noted that Modern Warfare 2's reported 25 million players aren't necessarily all on active duty. Surely, more than a few steadfast soldiers have taken up positions in DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2. No rest for the weary, eh?

Yeah the choppers and tanks were annoying at first but now I want to team to bring a tank to my side so I can place some C4 and get like 2 or 3 kills. The choppers are fun to destroy with the stationary AT. The thing is that BC2 needs vehicles so you can get around the huge maps. I feel like the killstreaks in COD4 were much better. All of those killstreaks in MW2 feel like too much. I also stopped playing MW2 because it was too lonewolf for me. I like feeling like part of a team. I play as a Medic and a Recon usually. I love reviving people and keeping my team on the frontlines so we can take the objective. As a recon, I love spotting the other team and being the counter sniper. I also love placing C4 on the tanks and watching it blow up. I feel like part of a team in BC2 and that's the experience I'm looking for in games.

Wow is this guy a fanboy or what? MW2 is one of the most despised games on PC and is declining more and more everyday. Check out the xfire statistics, its most definitely isn't in the top 20 games or top 10 fps.

Yeah, 25 million "unique" people running around with dual shotguns and the same cookie cutter perks build.

I was a huge fan of MW1, but MW2 just sucks. Mainly the multiplayer. Lovin' the co-op and the campain is okay, but I won't play it a dozen times like I have with every other IW developed CoD title.

I blame activision.
